My priorities are keeping West Fargo financially strong and maintaining a safe community. That means restoring budget discipline and making transparent, long-term decisions. We need to support attainable housing, reduce barriers to development, and keep infrastructure aligned with growth. And we must continue investing in our police and fire departments so they have the resources to serve our community well.
The biggest challenge is maintaining financial stability while managing rapid growth. We’re spending more than we bring in, which isn’t sustainable. I would address this by restoring budget discipline, aligning spending with revenue, and increasing transparency around financial decisions. At the same time, we need to plan growth responsibly by ensuring infrastructure, housing, and services keep pace without overextending resources.
We need to make it easier to build attainable, market-rate housing by reducing unnecessary barriers, streamlining approvals, and ensuring infrastructure is ready for development. Encouraging a mix of housing types will help meet different needs, and focusing on long-term planning will allow us to grow responsibly without driving up costs or limiting supply.
Yes. The 3% cap will limit how much the city can grow property tax revenue, even as costs for services continue to rise. But that's ok. That creates pressure on the budget and requires more disciplined spending, long-term planning, and prioritization to ensure we can maintain core services without overextending resources.
I bring a focus on discipline, transparency, and long-term thinking. With experience building and managing budgets in business and previously as a commissioner, I understand the importance of aligning spending with revenue and making tough, responsible decisions. I’ll prioritize clear communication, accountability, and avoiding short-term fixes that create long-term problems.
