2026 CD1 Democratic Primary
US House of RepresentativesThis race is the Democratic Party primary for U.S. House Congressional District 1. In Connecticut, primaries are closed, meaning that only those voters who selected a party when registering or when updating their voter registration may vote in the primary. Candidates qualify to be on the primary ballot either by receiving at least 15% of the delegate votes at the party's Nominating Convention (held May 11) or by obtaining signatures from at least 2% of registered Democrats in Congressional District 1. The U.S. House of Representative and U.S. Senate make up the U.S. Congress. Together the House and Senate have the authority to pass or defeat federal legislation, declare war, regulate interstate and foreign commerce, control taxing and spending policies. The House proposes revenue bills and initiates impeachment proceedings and articles of impeachment.A candidate for U.S. Representative must be at least 25 years old; must be a U.S. citizen for at least seven years; and must be a resident of the state they seek to represent. Representatives serve a 2-year term. Candidates were asked to respond to questions developed by local Leagues of Women Voters (LWV).
