I’m a Boerne ISD graduate, local business owner, and publisher who’s spent years working directly with students, educators, and community leaders. Through programs like Incubator EDU and trade-focused mentorship, I’ve seen firsthand where our schools are strong and where they need support. My background in media and public communication means I know how to ask tough questions, understand complex budgets, and communicate clearly with the public. I’ve also served on local boards and led community initiatives. I’m not a career insider. I’m a teacher, student, and taxpayer advocate who believes strong schools require strong oversight and accountability.
Managing rapid growth while maintaining the quality families expect is the biggest challenge facing Boerne ISD. That includes planning for facilities, staffing, and long-term financial stability. At the same time, we must ensure teacher pay becomes competitive once again and that resources are reaching classrooms, not just administrative layers. Transparency and public trust are also critical, especially as major decisions impact taxpayers. We also need to expand career and technical education, so students are prepared for real-world opportunities, not just college pathways. The goal is balanced: strong academics, practical skills, and responsible stewardship of public funds.
I consistently hear three things: take care of teachers, be responsible with taxpayer dollars, and communicate openly with the community. Parents want confidence that decisions are being made in the best interest of students and classrooms, not just systems or bureaucracy. Many feel growth is happening quickly and want reassurance that it’s being managed thoughtfully and responsibly. I also hear strong support for expanding career and technical education, so students have meaningful options after graduation. Above all, people want leadership that listens, explains decisions clearly, and stays focused on what matters most, which is student success.

Prior to becoming a trustee, I served on the district’s Budget and Long Range Planning Committees, preparing me for board service. I currently serve on our Finance and Facilities Committees, giving me significant knowledge on our budget and demographic trends. As Chair of our Legislative Advocacy Committee, I frequently visit the state capitol, developing strong relationships with both local and state legislators. We no longer send tax dollars to the state through Robin Hood and helped pass a bill creating a teacher retention allotment to increase compensation. Throughout my career I have had responsibility for managing large workforces and budgets.
We have interrelated challenges. Financially, state funding formulas result in BISD having $3000 less per student than the average Texas school district. However, with a supportive community we are able to be competitive in employee compensation and program offerings. The average district our size has five academic pathways for high school students while we offer twelve. We do more with less. We stress efficiency; this year alone we eliminated $1.5 million in administrative overhead, allowing that money to go to the classroom. Growth is a challenge – preparing for the future while retaining the character and values that make Boerne special.
We receive significant input from parents and residents. BISD is a highly sought after destination district. Our yearly college high schools in health careers and cyber security as well as Career and Technical Education programs are highly popular. Parents want the best teachers for their children and are supportive of our efforts to increase teacher pay. The community wants us to maintain the traditions that make Boerne special. They support our efforts to reduce property tax rates, which have decreased by 25% since 2019. They seek responsible growth management and positive character development that prepare students for the future.
