I was just named the most effective Democratic legislator in the state house after the Center for Effective Lawmaking studied all of the state legislators in our country. This was a comprehensive study by the university of Virginia and Vanderbilt University that looked at how substantive the legislation was that I was passing, how difficult the position it would be at the super minority, how well I worked the cross party lines, and how well I worked on amendments for other legislation that passed. While being the youngest and the first Latino ever elected to the Senate give me a unique perspective in the state house, I believe the work I’ve already done demonstrates my unique effectiveness.

I believe I have held the most town halls out of any of the 150 legislators in the time that I’ve been in office. In addition to that, I have a very active social media and communications presence. I host weekly segments like “Pol’s Polls” to both inform my constituents about current legislation and also provide a platform for feedback about their thoughts as well.
Right now, it is affordability across the board for a number of the most important aspects and social safety nets. For example, utility bills have gotten out of hand in my cock is, and I put together nearly 20 amendments to try and actually provide real relief in the form of the suspension on taxes, the transparency of the cost associated with utilities, the oversight and accountability of the utility companies, the prohibition on selling utilities to private equity or spending rate pay money on lobbying and dinners. We must also address childcare in order to ensure that our young professional parents can afford to send their kids to a quality childcare center and get back into the workforce.
On childcare, we must continue to work on the assistance to childcare centers, such as the tri-share model implemented in Michigan. We must also restore the CCDF waivers, even if that means diverting funds that would’ve gone to private school vouchers.
On housing, there are regulatory measures that we can relax in order to assist the housing market, but we always must keep local control at the forefront.
