Our school district is facing unprecedented financial challenges caused by years of chronic under-funding and costly state mandates from Republican legislators in Harrisburg. A recent Commonwealth Court ruling said that Pennsylvania leaders were not performing their Constitutional duty to fully and fairly fund our schools. Thanks to Governor Shapiro and our slim Democratic majority in the PA House. we have began to slowly see an uptick in funding but it is not enough for school districts to overcome exploding costs and Harrisburg mandates. I support legalizing recreational marijuana, using the tax revenue strictly for education funding, and reform special ed funding to charter schools so that payments match the actual services provided .
We must make it easier for every eligible US Citizen in Pennsylvania to exercise their constitutional right to vote, not erect ridiculous and frivolous barriers to it. I am in favor of establishing early voting in PA, something numerous other states have successfully and securely offered for years. This would require adequate funding for counties to establish early voting centers and fully staff them. We must preserve and protect mail-in balloting in Pennsylvania and protect and expand access to secure drop boxes. I would support a law to prohibit the PA Dept of State and County Boards of Election from turning over sensitive voter information to Federal agencies.
I've seen the pain and burden that lengthy budget impasses have on human service agencies, non-profits, school districts, and the community at large. I would support a measure that would allow the PA Treasury to release funds for schools, human services, and mass transit at previous fiscal year levels until a new budget agreement is reached.
Yes, and I support HB1834, which recently passed the House without one Republican co-sponsor. This bill mandates new data centers provide their own water and power, preferably from renewable sources, as to not put a further strain on local energy grids and water supplies. Data centers are a relatively new and rapidly developing industry that local municipal zoning laws are not currently equipped to handle. That is why I support HB 2151, which creates a state-wide model ordinance for municipalities to adopt into their own code, giving local officials the tools the need to promote growth while adequately protecting their communities, and giving residents a greater voice.
