Working families are being squeezed by rising costs, a lack of affordable housing, and wages that haven’t kept up. At the same time, our democracy is strained by extremism and a political system that too often puts power, money, and special interests over everyday people. I’ll work to raise wages, lower costs, expand affordable housing, protect Social Security and Medicare, and ensure healthcare doesn’t bankrupt Americans. We must also protect our neighbors, defend voting rights, restore accountability, and bring a new generation of leadership willing to challenge the status quo and deliver real results.
Congress has a constitutional duty to serve as a check on the executive branch, and that responsibility is especially critical under the Trump administration, where we’ve seen repeated efforts to undermine norms, bypass accountability, and consolidate power. Oversight must be serious, consistent, and rooted in the rule of law, not partisan politics. That means holding hearings, issuing subpoenas when necessary, and ensuring transparency in how taxpayer dollars are spent and how policies are carried out. Congress must defend the independence of the judiciary, control federal spending as a check on executive overreach, and uphold the Constitution. No president, of any party, should be above the law.
Congress has a critical role in shaping foreign policy by providing oversight, setting priorities, and ensuring accountability. It must reassert its constitutional authority on matters of war and peace, including the use of military force, and ensure that diplomacy is always the first option. Congress should strengthen alliances, support democratic values, and promote stability abroad while avoiding endless wars. It must also oversee foreign aid and trade to ensure they serve both our national interests and global humanitarian goals. A strong, principled foreign policy keeps our country safe while reflecting our values.
Healthcare should be a right, not a privilege. I support Medicare for All because no one in this country should go bankrupt or delay care due to cost. Medical debt remains the leading cause of bankruptcy in America, and that is unacceptable. We need to pass legislation creating a universal, publicly funded system that covers everyone and eliminates premiums, deductibles, and most out-of-pocket costs. In the meantime, Congress should lower prescription drug prices, expand Medicare benefits, strengthen patient protections, and take on for-profit healthcare conglomerates that rig the system to their advantage at the expense of Americans. It’s time to move away from a profit-driven system and toward one that puts people first.
