Among other things, township government in Indiana is responsible for fire protection, cemetery care, township assistance (poor relief), and recreation. The board oversees the trustee and approves the budget and policies to do so. As costs continue to rise, doing so in a cost effective manner while still providing a high level of services becomes a challenge, but not one that can't be overcome.
We are fortunate to not have a funding gap all while maintaining a very low tax levy, and one of the lowest in the state.
I have been on the Union Township Board for the past 12 years and we've successfully run an efficient and cost effective office during that entire time. I've also been on several other boards including the Union Township School Corporation Building and Finance Board.
As a member of the township board, I will continue to work with the Trustee to provide the best township services for our residents by meeting regularly and discussing needs and opportunities and finding fiscally responsible ways to finance those determined to be beneficial.
