He is involved in the local community though his service as a Teacher, Deacon, and Missions Leader at South Haven Christian Church. Steve also leads the Duneland Photography Club, which seeks to not only teach photography, but to serve community organizations. He serves as a Precinct Committeeman in Portage Township. The Portage Township Board is responsible for township parks, the South Haven Fire Department, cemeteries, the Bonner Senior Center, and providing help with people in difficult financial needs. I will strive to ensure that taxpayer funds are used responsibly for our families, children, seniors, and to protect public safety.
Budgets are designed to prioritize taxpayer funds to meet community needs. When needed, other sources, such as private funds and grants will be explored. But it is important that we live within our means.
I have held leadership roles in my career and in local community organizations. I worked as a school teacher and administrator. I also worked as a Chemist at DuPont and W.R. Grace in East Chicago, IN, where I took the lead on important projects, including planning and designing a modern lab on this chemical plant. I retired from this career after nearly 30 years of service. Currently, I serve as President of the Duneland Photography Club. I am also a deacon, teacher, and missions leader, and past treasurer, in my church. I have been involved for over the past decade in the local community, including serving as a Precinct Committeeman in Portage Township.
I have lived in Portage Township for about 40 years. I enjoy working with people. I strive for consensus with groups in order to meet needs. Problem solving is a strong suite for me. Faith, family, and country are priorities for me. Kindness, respect, and common sense are important values.

One of the most significant challenges in our community is ensuring that individuals and families facing financial hardship, housing instability, and recovery needs have access to consistent, effective support. I believe the solution is stronger coordination and accountability. As a board member, I will continue to support responsible budgeting, prioritize funding for essential services, and encourage partnerships with local organizations to expand resources. By focusing on transparency and collaboration, we can make sure services are accessible and truly meeting community needs.
Addressing a projected funding gap requires careful, responsible decision-making. I would focus on prioritizing essential services, reviewing spending for efficiency, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used wisely. I also support exploring partnerships, grants, and shared services where appropriate to reduce costs without sacrificing quality. Transparency and long-term planning are key to maintaining financial stability while continuing to serve the community effectively.
