Candidate Bio Information I am a lifelong resident of NWI, the last 13 residing in Valparaiso. I am a registered nurse of 20 years. Having spent that time in area hospitals, there’s a good chance that I have taken care of you or someone that you care about. I am married with 3 wonderful adult children. I am the Secretary of NWI Medicare for All advocacy group.
One of the most significant challenges in Center Township is affordability. Housing, utilities, food and childcare have increased substantially for working families everywhere, but especially in Valparaiso. Rising costs have quickly outpaced wages and many find themselves struggling. The trustee’s office can be a great resource when people don’t know where to begin asking for help. The current trustee and board have done an excellent job working with local nonprofit organizations and by employing a full time social worker. I hope to expand upon what the township trustee and board has already done by partnering with more local organizations to expand services to residents in need.
The position that I am running for has little to no influence on funding within the municipality. However, I would not be opposed to working with other local elected officials to help find ways that we might address this issue by streamlining services between the township and city (municipality). Along with the trustee, I would also work to advocate to obtain more funding from the state in an effort to ensure that the residents of Center Township do not suffer the repercussions of budget shortfalls.
I have been a registered nurse in Northwest Indiana for over 20 years. My years in healthcare and commitment to my patients has given me a unique perspective and ability to witness the daily struggles of working families. I have devoted much of my life to caring for others in need, and this is why being a member of the Center Township board is a perfect role for me. I view my role as a member of the township board much like my role as a nurse, I am available in your time of need to assess your current situation and to offer aid and support. My goal is to help people return to a sense of normalcy to continue being productive members of our community.
I am a lifelong resident of NWI. I am married with 3 adult children. I have lived in Center Township for 13 years and raised my family here. Families, particularly young families, are the cornerstone of communities. The future of the community and by extension government rely on the prosperity of the families who live there. I love my community and would like to serve by helping other families like mine be successful.
