I have been in this office for 7 years. I have been instrumental in increasing services for our veterans, increased health services for our citizens and keeping taxes at the lowest levels in the state.
Consistent communication with the department heads, while also keeping in touch with our state elected officials to see what the state is doing with money allocated to the counties.
I am an incumbent. I am constantly communicating with my constituents in public places as well as returning phone calls and emails promptly. I am never too busy to speak to members of the community regarding their concerns, comments, or even suggestions. I feel that we are all in this together.
I am proud of the programs I have implemented in the county and I look forward to being able to serve 4 more years. Some of the programs include: Free Stop the Bleed training, Free CPR classes, Free mental first aid seminars, I give away free bikes to people in need as well as fix their bikes if need be. I also have given out free Narcan boxes throughout the county as well as help supply them. I am also proud of being apart of expanding free rides for our veterans going to the VA hospital in Crown Point.
I was a special education teacher for many years, then I taught Government, Economics, and U.S. History. After 41 years of teaching I decided to become an EMT and I am proud to say that I am currently an EMT working on an 911 ambulance.
Since I have been in office, I have started a suicide prevention task Force and proud to say that we have helped decreased the numbers of suicides each year, while expanding mental health without any increase of money from the county. I care about the health and safety of our community members, and I am always looking for ways to improve our quality of life. I started a kite festival last year and I plan on expanding it to even bigger heights. I also look forward to offering more opportunities for families to participate in outdoor activities without any fees.
I am also a volunteer at the Chicago Street Theater and I always look forward to being apart of a wonderful organization that helps bring culture and plays to our community.
