Candidate Bio Information I’m a Mom, accountant, current Valparaiso city council member, former union member, and the Democratic candidate for Porter County Clerk. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Accounting from Indiana University. I raised my sons in Valparaiso. I'm also a long-term member of the League of Women Voters.
My priorities for the Clerk’s office include: 1. Lead all administrative duties with fairness, accuracy, and equal accessibility in every transaction, for every person. 2. Ensure fair elections and expand voting access. 3. Improve communications between the clerk’s office and the public.
The clerk of the circuit court is a key county government position responsible for leading non-judicial court administration, election administration, certifying election results and maintaining records integrity - areas vital to public trust. This role demands operational leadership, sound judgment, and a commitment to accuracy and transparency. I have spent my professional career as an accountant, including 15+ years’ experience in governmental accounting. I have led compliance activities for accounting teams representing public and private domestic companies, working with federal, state, and local government agencies—including the IRS —as well as leading compliance duties for global operations.
1. Ensuring fair, accurate, and accessible non-judicial court administration involves transforming administrative, procedural, and technological functions to support equity and public trust. Investing in employee training is key to improving efficiencies in operations. 2. Creating voter toolkits, designed by the young voter, aimed at increasing voter turnout. Higher voter turnout fosters a more engaged and informed pool of elected officials, promoting a sense of civic responsibility and accountability. It ensures that the voices of a broader cross-section of the community are heard, contributing to a more inclusive and responsive government. 3. Explore using campaign filing penalty revenue to fund increased mobile voting van operations.
1. Host town halls with nonprofits to share legislative changes in voting laws and partner on voter empowerment. Charitable nonprofits are uniquely positioned through their credibility and deep knowledge of their communities to inspire voter participation. When nonprofits use their legal rights to – on a nonpartisan basis – encourage people to vote by registering citizens to vote and getting out to vote, citizens vote at significantly higher levels than if nonprofits did not act. 2. Invest in advertising public meetings which is essential to engage broader and more representative community members. Use targeted digital ads, local and social media, and community partnerships to ensure residents feel informed, welcomed, and valued.
I am a board of delegates member of the Shared Ethics Advisory Commission. I serve as the liasion to the Board of Public Works and Safety, the Transportation and Town & Gown Committees and the Historic Preservation commission. I championed free Valparaiso public transit on primary and general election days. I authored legislation proposing a non-partisan redistricting commission to draw local electoral maps. When Indiana legislators faced federal pressure to redraw congressional maps mid-census, I offered public comments before the Indiana Senate Elections Committee in opposition of the bill. My professional and public service experience align with the clerk's job duties. I commit to working tirelessly for all residents of Porter County.
