The best possible way to address affordable housing is for state government to get out of the way, this is best managed by local government. As for the role of state government we can ensure deregulation. An increase in supply will be impacted by simply reducing bureaucratic red tape. Affordable housing is directly related to shortage of supply thus, by removing government-imposed barriers and allowing for innovative answers like tiny homes or "Yes in Gods Backyard" initiatives that allows churches and nonprofits to build on unused land we can truly address the affordable housing dilemma.
Until we have codified state law that ensures parental rights are inherently fundamental and strict scrutiny applies SD parents will continue to remove their children from the public school system. Equitable, quality public education for all begins with parental rights and school choice. Every child is different. Families should be encouraged to find the best educational system for their children. The ultimate goal should be children who can read and write; that begins with freedom to choose.
I am grateful that we have a system that ensures the voice of the people is heard. The SB201 debacle defeated by RL21 proves our system works. My biggest concern is the freedom that we have can be overrun by bad actors from out of state organizations. I will always support legislation that protects our current system while also making it difficult for outsiders to take advantage of us.
I live in an area where post office boxes are common. In fact, in my community they are all that we have. This is consistent through all of Indian Country as well as many rural areas. I believe that a fair election is imperative, but I am ever mindful of simple wording in legislation that could impede those who live in very rural areas.
I do not believe this should be a governmental decision. It is clear that the current laws regarding childcare have created a system where people are eternally bound to keep their income levels as low as possible in order to be eligible. The current system is broken. The best solution is local nonprofits who know the families and the situations.
There are several issues that I would rate as "most important." We have a failing educational system that feeds the failing criminal justice system. Our emergency medical services are in dire need of financial overhaul, and the incoming threat of land grabs for corporations labeled as "economic development" will utterly destroy our current way of life. And now is the time to address upcoming water shortages and failing infrastructure like dams and bridges.
