In addition to my business background, I have more than a decade of experience improving educational outcomes for students across the socioeconomic spectrum. During my three years as District 2 Trustee, I have worked closely with students, families, educators, and community partners and gained firsthand understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Dallas ISD. I have helped set district priorities, oversee a multibillion-dollar budget, and hold the administration accountable for results. This experience has deepened my understanding of how board decisions affect classrooms, resources, and student outcomes. I am committed to thoughtful, data-informed governance that supports academic achievement, fiscal responsibility, and equitable opportunities for all students.
I support Dallas ISD’s evaluation and compensation systems that recognize teacher effectiveness and allow the district to reward skill, impact, and leadership. I also support strategic staffing initiatives that place strong teachers in high-need schools. In a constrained fiscal environment, the district must prioritize competitive compensation, supportive working conditions, and professional growth opportunities. Strong teachers are the most important in-school factor in student success, and maintaining a high-quality workforce is essential to improving outcomes districtwide.
Dallas ISD has not experienced a clear enrollment change attributable specifically to the new state voucher program, which will not begin funding students until the 2026–27 school year. Early information suggests many applicants are already enrolled in private/home schools, and not all private schools are participating. I will continue monitoring enrollment closely and planning responsibly so the district can adjust as needed while maintaining strong academic programs and services for students who choose Dallas ISD.
Attendance is improving, but it has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels. Dallas ISD has made attendance recovery a priority through outreach to families, student support services, and campus initiatives. Regular attendance is essential for learning, engagement, and academic progress. Because Texas funds schools largely based on average daily attendance, lower attendance also creates financial pressure that can affect staffing and programs. Improving attendance supports both student achievement and the district’s ability to maintain services. The district continues working to address barriers such as health concerns, transportation challenges, and disengagement so students can attend school consistently and benefit fully from instructional opportunities.
All students and employees deserve a safe, respectful environment free from discrimination. I support clear nondiscrimination policies, well-defined reporting and investigation procedures, and consistent enforcement allowing concerns to be addressed promptly and fairly. Dallas ISD monitors campus climate through surveys and reporting systems Policies are effective only when implemented consistently across campuses. The district must also comply with state and federal law while considering community input. Protecting student safety and dignity is fundamental to teaching and learning.
In addition to core trustee responsibilities, I will focus on strengthening early learning and expanding opportunities for all students. Priorities include Bond 2026 to maintain safe, modern facilities, implementing universal pre-K, and expanding access to high-quality enrichment experiences. I also support piloting a pre-primer option for students who need additional time to build foundational skills before first grade. These efforts aim to improve readiness, close achievement gaps early, and ensure every student has access to the experiences and support needed for long-term success.
