Prosecuting Attorney - 38th District
The prosecutor is elected in each judicial circuit for a term of four years, must be a practicing attorney and has no term limits. The prosecuting attorney’s duties include prosecuting violators of state statutes in various courts with criminal jurisdiction. The prosecuting attorney is authorized to appoint one chief deputy, both of which are paid by the state. Each prosecuting attorney is authorized to appoint one or more investigators to help collect and assemble the evidence needed for criminal prosecutions. The county council sets the investigator salaries. County funds are used to pay the salaries of additional deputies, investigators, the cost of clerical assistance and operating expenses.
