I’m running because I’m a lifelong Knox County resident, mom of two daughters in South Knox County Schools, and I believe our schools work best when decisions are focused on students and educators, not political agendas or national politics. As a parent, volunteer, and longtime member of the South Knox community, I’ve seen firsthand how important strong public schools are for families across District 9.
First & foremost, I’m a highly involved mom of two daughters in South Knox County Schools, so I see firsthand how decisions made at the school board level affect families & students. Professionally, I’ve spent nearly twenty years working as a Senior Manager of Operations in the healthcare industry. My job has involved managing between teams of 70 to 100 FTE, overseeing large budgets, solving problems, & making sure complex systems run smoothly while being easily accessible and understandable to my constituents. Those same skills––listening, problem-solving, managing resources responsibly, and working with people to find solutions––are exactly what school board members need to do their job well. And that’s exactly what I bring to the table.
I believe the core responsibilities of a school board member are to set a clear vision for the district, ensure responsible use of taxpayer dollars, and provide oversight and accountability. Just as importantly, it’s about being transparent, listening to families and educators, and truly serving the community. That includes working collaboratively with and holding the superintendent accountable, while keeping every decision focused on students—not politics
I’m a thoughtful problem solver at my core. I’ve loved puzzles since I was a kid, and I still approach challenges that way today. I take the time to understand the full picture, listen to different perspectives, and find solutions, even when they require thinking outside the box. I bring persistence, patience, and respect to every decision, and I follow through. As a mom with two daughters in Knox County Schools, I’m deeply invested in getting this right.
My top priority is supporting & retaining great teachers. We cannot have strong schools without strong educators, & that means making sure teachers have the support, resources, & working conditions they need to stay in the profession.
I also want to strengthen early literacy support so children build a strong foundation for learning from the start. Too often students don’t receive extra help until they’ve already struggled with high-stakes testing.
Finally, I believe we must continue investing in our public schools so they have the resources needed to support both teachers & students. Improving class sizes, & strengthening our schools all require a commitment to funding public education.
