The out-of-control spending and the lack of accountability in the Trustees office.
I have actually done the job, my experience of 18 years in the Trustees office has better prepared me than any other candidate. Nothing beats hands on experience.
1- Collect Property Tax

2- Deposit Property Tax

3-Invest idle funds as directed by the Knox County Investment Committee.

4- The Trustee also keeps detailed financial records and administers state funded Tax Relief Programs for the elderly, disabled, and veterans homeowners.

Accountability and Integrity. Accountability is taking ownership for your actions, decision, and behavior without shifting blame. Integrity is doing the right thing for the right reason. Nothing more nothing less.
1- Eliminate unnecessary spending. 2- This office will end the practice of political favor hiring. 3- Will adopt a policy that all employees and family cannot purchase any properties listed in the Tax Sale.
I will say what i do and i will do what i say.
I continuously read about issues occurring in this office, like ghost employees, unearned bonuses, using the office for personal financial gain, and poor spending decisions. I’ve been a public servant for almost 30 years and I have always focused on being respectful and trustworthy when it comes to tax dollars and government equipment. The citizens expect our officials to use the taxes we pay efficiently and reasonably. I want to help restore trust in this position so that the people of Knox County know their elected officials are treating the money with the respect it deserves, not like a personal piggy bank.
With nearly 30 years in public service, I’ve had the responsibility of ensuring that the government was getting its money's worth from contracts and that rules and regulations were being followed. As a Department of Defense civilian, I helped plan, evaluate, implement, and maintain several multi million dollar projects. I also served as a Contracting Officer’s Representative ensuring that our contracts were being fulfilled and that the applicable laws and regulations were followed. I am a strong advocate for spending money wisely. I’m always looking for ways to consolidate resources and reduce spending where possible.
The Trustee is responsible for the collection, management, and disbursement of the tax dollars in this county. Doing so in a responsible manner is job one. The County depends on the department to collect the tax dollars owed and to ensure the bills of the County are paid in a timely fashion. The actions of this office ensure that the Knox County Government has the funding it needs to fulfill its duties.
In every position I’ve held, I’ve had a strong respect for the applicable rules and regulations associated with that position. They are in place to ensure that work is completed as required and that departments are fiscally responsible. That is what is needed in the Trustee’s office and I will do everything in my power to prove that the tax payers of Knox County can trust me to oversee operations.
First, review operations within the Trustee’s office to ensure the policies and procedures are clear, enforceable, and of the highest standard to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse. Second, champion transparency and regular reporting so the citizen can see how their tax dollars are managed. Finally, work with other department leaders and auditors to look for ways we can be more efficient and accountable. My fiscally responsible approach would help restore the community’s trust in how its tax dollars are spent and free up money for programs to help those in need, hopefully without having to raise taxes to do so. I would also strive to ensure that assistance programs benefitted those in need and weren’t abused by the wealthy and corporations.
For years under Republican leadership, the Trustee’s office has had multiple issues that call its ability to responsibly handle our money into question. I want to bring my fiscal responsibility and adherence to the rules and regulations to this department and to earn Knox County’s trust back for the department.
As someone who has chosen a role in County Government as my professional career, I know the importance of employees and elected officials being transparent, trustworthy, accountable, and qualified for the positions they seek. Being a public servant means that you put the needs of the County and its citizens before your own, without question, every single time. The out-of-control spending and lack of trust our community has in the Trustee's office is what motivated me to run for trustee. I will put TRUST back in the Trustee's office.
My past leadership experience, institutional knowledge, education, and commitment to serving our County have prepared me to serve as the next Trustee.
The core responsibilities of the Trustee are to be a good financial steward of the County's finances, to be transparent and accountable, to collect taxes in a timely manner, and to maintain a good working relationship with other County offices.
I believe that leading by example with honesty and accountability, combined with my communication and problem-solving skills, makes me a successful office holder.
Day one, my first priority will be to eliminate the six luxury pickup trucks leased by the Trustee's office, followed by reducing the number of employees, eliminating wasteful spending, and, lastly, ensuring we hold at least one tax sale a year.
I am the only candidate with the experience and continued education to restore integrity and fix the numerous issues in this office.
