I am the current councilmember with hands-on experience serving Uhland's residents and guiding city decisions. I sit on the Uhland Economic Development Board, and I am heavily involved in local government and community service. I continue my professional development and education through organizations like the Texas Municipal League (TML), and I maintain memberships in relevant professional and civic organizations. My practical experience, ongoing training, and deep community involvement equip me to serve effectively and continue building on the work I've already started.
My top priorities are public safety, responsible economic development, strategic planning for our city's growth and maintaining financial responsibility. Residents deserve safe neighborhoods, so I will continue supporting our police. As our city grows, we must plan carefully to ensure infrastructure, roads, and services keep pace while preserving our quality of life. I also support economic development that brings quality jobs and strengthens our local economy. Finally, I will continue pursuing state and federal grants to help fund infrastructure, public safety, and community improvements while reducing the financial burden on our residents.
When faced with immigration enforcement actions, the city should prioritize community trust, public safety, and limit the use of local resources for federal immigration tasks.
Managing Uhland's water requires conservation, smart development, and long-term planning. We should implement and or expand incentives for rainwater harvesting, xeriscaping, desert-friendly landscaping, and efficient turf alternatives. High-usage industrial projects must show sustainable water plans, including recycling, reuse systems, and efficiency standards, before approval. Uhland should also reduce system losses and coordinate with partners like Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority GBRA and the Texas Water Development Board to secure a drought-resilient water supply.
To ensure residents are respected as partners, guidelines should include a clearly communicated decorum policy, a fair speaking order, reasonable time limits, and accessible language support. Council members and staff should listen to understand, encourage respectful dialogue, and acknowledge all input in meeting records or follow-up communications. Active listening and community engagement can further reinforce a culture of respect, trust and partnership.
I have a bachelors degree from Texas Tech Univ., I served on the Board of Directors for the High Plains Epilepsy Association and on Uhland City Council, where I began with an appointment, was later elected, and then appointed again. I stepped away before completing my elected term during COVID to care for my mother during a serious illness. My service included a focus on maintaining lower taxes and improving public safety, particularly along Highway 21, where I advocated for stoplights, efforts to slow traffic through Uhland, and the placement of “No Parking” signage to improve visibility and roadway safety. I was also involved in city budgeting, infrastructure discussions, and policies affecting public services and local businesses.
My top priority is hearing the voices of the people of Uhland and protecting the interests of our community. Residents deserve leadership that listens and takes their concerns seriously. We must also clean up the mess at City Hall by restoring strong financial oversight and getting the city’s finances back on track. I believe in encouraging the right kind of development and negotiating smart agreements that generate revenue for the city while protecting residents from higher taxes. Public safety, especially along Highway 21, must be addressed. I also want to revitalize our historic downtown and bring new energy to our local economy. Above all, I will work to restore transparency and ensure corruption and backroom dealings have no place.
The City’s role is to follow and comply with the laws that are in place. Immigration enforcement is primarily a federal responsibility, but local governments should ensure they are operating within state and federal law while maintaining public safety and treating all residents with respect. Our focus as a city should remain on serving the community, supporting law enforcement in carrying out their duties legally, and ensuring the city operates within the framework of the law.
As our community grows, protecting our water resources must remain a priority. Developers and engineers should be held accountable for ensuring that new projects are designed with long-term water sustainability in mind and that the impact on our water supply is carefully evaluated before approval. Growth should be planned thoughtfully, with responsible development and appropriate density so we do not overextend our existing resources. The city must also focus on conservation, infrastructure planning, and using our water wisely so that we can support growth while protecting our supply during ongoing drought conditions.
Public input is one of the most important parts of local government. Residents who take the time to attend meetings and speak should be treated as partners in the process, not as inconveniences. A simple guideline is the Golden Rule—treat your neighbor as you would want to be treated. Every resident who comes forward deserves to be respected, acknowledged, and heard regardless of their position. City leadership should foster a culture where citizens feel welcome to participate, knowing their voices matter and their concerns will be taken seriously.
