Very simply - funding. Fighting for our public school students and educators is more important than ever. Nebraska public schools are under attack at the exact moment our educators and students need more support, not less. Voucher schemes overwhelmingly rejected by Nebraska voters are being snuck back into the state budget while school resources are cut. Nebraska educators, as all Nebraska families, are struggling to make ends meet and our kids’ classrooms have a lack of resources and support. Supporting our educators with resources and policies like paid leave and living wages that help them take care of their own families is one of the greatest investments we can make in our future.
As housing costs continue to take up a larger part of every Nebraskan’s budget, affordable housing is critical to any economic development. When Nebraskans can afford their housing we have a more reliable, less stressed workforce, more money to be invested in local businesses, and a stronger tax base to sustain that development. Affordable childcare is a top concern for parents and employers across our state. Workforce retention requires better access to affordable childcare because parents leave the workforce without it. Affordable childcare brings parents back into the workforce, helps raise successful Nebraskans, and promotes long-term sustainable economic development by helping Nebraska families.
Born and raised in Nebraska, I know our rural and urban communities have more in common than not - hard work, respect for each other, and helping our neighbors. The tension between rural and urban priorities has been created and exploited by elected officials looking to profit from that division. I appreciate that agriculture is our state’s largest industry and our farmers are critical to Nebraska’s history and future. I will always support Nebraska families regardless of where they live. I do believe there is a way that urban and rural districts can cooperate rather than compete, but I will represent my neighbors in LD8 first and foremost on issues of state funding, local control, public schools, and a more balanced property tax system.
Constituent voice is the single most important resource for a State Senator. Over my career working on policy at the state level, I’ve been as frustrated as every Nebraskan watching Senators disregard the lives, experiences, and even votes of their constituents. Senators should listen and seek out experts and diverse voices when making policy. When that voice is ignored, we see exactly what’s been happening at the Legislature as Senators waste time on issues that do not help all Nebraskans. That’s why I have prioritized going door-to-door and talking to thousands of LD8 voters regardless of their party - those face-to-face conversations remind me that Nebraskans share more values than we think, even when we disagree on issues.

My top concern is the long-term strength of Nebraska’s public schools, especially supporting teachers and protecting public funding. We are facing real challenges recruiting and retaining educators because pay and support have not kept pace with the demands of the job, which impacts classroom quality and student outcomes.

At the same time, voucher programs risk diverting scarce public dollars away from neighborhood public schools and prioritizing ideology over education. Public dollars belong in public schools.

My focus is increasing teacher pay and support to strengthen the workforce, while opposing vouchers and ensuring we fully invest in public schools so every student has access to a high-quality education.
Investing in people, communities, and systems that create lasting results is the most effective path to economic development. Workforce development and job training help connect people to good-paying jobs, while responsible infrastructure investments in broadband, transportation, and energy allow businesses to grow and compete. We also need to find ways to keep more money in people’s pockets, including responsible property tax relief that supports families and small businesses. Targeted, accountable incentives can support growth if tied to clear outcomes, and supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs helps keep wealth in our communities.
Balancing rural and urban priorities starts with recognizing that both are essential to Nebraska’s success and require thoughtful, not one-size-fits-all, policy. As a legislator, I would focus on equitable investment while promoting rural communities access to broadband, healthcare, and infrastructure, while urban areas receive support for housing, transportation, and economic growth.

I would prioritize policies that create shared benefits, like property tax relief, and strong local economies. Just as important, I would stay engaged with stakeholders across the state to understand unique needs and ensure resources are allocated fairly, transparently, and with long-term impact in mind.
The role of a state senator is to balance the interests of the community you are entrusted to represent with those of the entire state. Nebraska thrives when all of its communities are successful, but that begins with strong advocacy for your own district. That means staying closely connected to the people I serve and understanding their specific challenges and priorities. Constituent feedback must be the top priority, because these decisions impact our daily lives. I am not representing only myself, and it is critical that the community feels heard, respected, and reflected in every decision I make. At the same time, I will work collaboratively to support policies that strengthen Nebraska as a whole.
