The Indiana House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the Indiana General Assembly. Alongside the Indiana State Senate, it forms the legislative branch of the Indiana state government and works alongside the governor of Indiana to create laws and establish a state budget. Legislative authority and responsibilities of the Indiana House of Representatives include passing bills on public policy matters, setting levels for state spending, raising and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or orverride gubernatorial vetoes.

I have a proven track record of delivering results and standing up for working families. Over the past six years in office, I have fought to advance policies that protect and support our communities, including defending redistricting efforts at the Statehouse and holding powerful utility companies accountable. My experience, combined with a willingness to take on tough fights, makes me a strong and effective advocate for the people I serve.
While I do not have direct authority to implement service delivery changes, as a legislator I play a critical role in shaping budgets and voting on policies that impact service quality. That’s why I voted against the most recent budget—it failed to provide adequate resources for Hoosiers, particularly in education, healthcare, and childcare. I also opposed Senate Bill 1, which strips essential funding from local units of government. Moving forward, my strategy is to advocate for responsible, people-centered budgeting that prioritizes core services and ensures local communities have the resources they need for all Hoosiers to have better quality of life.
I prioritize consistent and accessible communication with my constituents through multiple channels. I regularly host town halls to engage directly with community members and hear their concerns firsthand. Throughout the year, I send out mailers to provide updates on key issues and resources, and I publish a monthly e-newsletter highlighting my work during the legislative session and in the district. I also issue press releases to keep the public informed on key decisions and developments. In addition, I use social media platforms to share timely updates and stay connected with constituents in real time.
Indiana’s biggest policy challenge is affordability, particularly the rising cost of utilities that are placing a strain on working families. I have taken direct action by submitting five amendments aimed at lowering utility costs and increasing accountability for utility companies. I also introduced an amendment to eliminate the sales tax on utilities, which would provide immediate relief to Hoosiers. Moving forward, I will continue to fight for policies that reduce costs and ensure essential services remain affordable for everyone.
To ensure essential services like housing, food, and childcare are accessible and affordable for working families, I would work with my colleagues to build support for these crucial issues. As a member of Ways and Means, I will push for increased funding for food banks and childcare to provide immediate relief to families who need it most. I will also support legislation that empowers local units of government to address the housing crisis, recognizing that housing policy is primarily driven at the local level. My focus is on making sure communities have the resources and flexibility they need to deliver real solutions.
