By law, a Township Board only has to meet a minimum of four times in a year. Its members have to approve the Township's budget, organize themselves, approve an annual report, and approve salaries. Board members also approve any potential loans or bond issues.
I currently serve as Chairman of the Board holding that position for 3 out of 4 years in my 1st term. I have spent nearly my entire life as a resident of Knight Township. In my professional life, I have spent over 18 years in the death care industry and am the current Town Administrative Manager for the Town of Newburgh, Indiana. I am a graduate and the class of 2013 Valedictorian of the International Cemetery Cremation Funeral Association University. In 2017 I was recognized by the ICCFA as a Certified Cemetery Executive. Additionally, I am the current chairman and a board member of the State Board of Funeral and Cemetery Service. Furthermore, I am the Past President and a current board member of the Indiana Cemetery Association.
My top two priorities upon reelection as a Board Member are to attend all called meetings of the Township Board to ensure that the voters who place me into this role are represented and to approve both the annual budget and annual report, providing insight where I can. Second, I plan to work with both the Trustee and other Board Members on ensuring Knight Township's compliance with Indiana Senate Enrolled Act 270 and prepare for our upcoming review by the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance. I focus on these goals in order to provide both potential oversight and guidance in ensuring that every tax dollar is maximized to its fullest extent in providing for the residents in need residing within Knight Township.
I think that our current economic times and focus on Township Government reform by the state are the most important challenges facing our Township. I will work with both the Township Trustee and other Board Members to ensure that we have measures in place to continue our service levels to meet the potential relief needs of residents of Knight Township. This will be accomplished by drawing upon a lifetime of leadership experiences in doing so.
In my potential reelection, I will focus on serving the many diverse neighborhoods that make up Knight Township. I will continue to draw inspiration in that endeavor from my time working within local Neighborhood Associations. I am a two term past president of United Neighborhoods of Evansville and served as both a Board Member and President of the Eastview Neighborhood Association within Knight Township for many years. I have been honored to be a past UNOE Sparkplug Award Winner as well as a 2006 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Service and Volunteerism Nominee based on his efforts to improve our local neighborhoods. I assure voters that my previous experience in serving neighborhoods will continue to carry over to the Township Board.

First part of the role is to advise the Township Trustee along with other board members. Attendance of all required meetings especially to organize the board each year and to approve the Township Budget. Additional Meeting is needed to approve the Trustee's annual report. Less formal roles include education and promotion of the importance of township government. Working with the trustee, other board members and other levels of government to ensure efficient use of and access to funding to allow the township to up hold its mission including; fire services for township, assist with burial needs and quick and effective use of funds to assist those struggling against economic pressures.
A large part of Knight Township Trustees office deals with poverty assistance. By profession I am an Occupational Therapist. (OT) OT's have training in physical, psychological and societal problems. Poverty is a multifactorial and complex issue. Therapists are problem and solution focused without passing judgement on people in needs of help. I have taken the Bridges out of Poverty Course thru Deaconess Hospital. I served as a church Deacon for 15 years including service on the Ohio Presbytery Deacon Board. Working with patients and people coming to church for help, I have witnessed first hand the challenges and negative impacts of poverty on many people. These problems are mostly outside their control. I have compassion for them.
1st: Unfortunately, local economic impacts, for example rising cost of electricity, necessitate that top priority is insuring funding is available to ensure poverty assistance that is available quickly and delivered responsibly. Thus, getting the township budget approved efficiently is a top priority.
2nd: My other priority is to ensure that the citizens of Knight Township and other levels of government understand the importance and positive impact of Township offices of Trustee and Advisory Board Members..
Due to economic conditions such as rising cost water/sewer and electricity services combined with constrained resources from both the Federal and State levels, there will be more citizens of Knight Township needing assistance but less resources available. The advisory board & Trustee will need to diligently work together to identify as many resources as the law allows us to access to assure we can help people. Additionally, we will need to collaborate with the Indiana Township Association to identify other urban townships that may have unique solutions that Knight Township can also implement. I am a team player and enjoy finding and implementing novel and creative solutions to problems. Training in therapy allows big picture solutions.
I am a community advocate and believe in working collaboratively in my endeavors. I think that it is important to be involved with associations and organizations that help others. In college, I formed a Student Occupational Therapy Association. I served as a Liaison Occupational Therapy Assistant for the Massachusetts OT Association to the National Association. I worked with UNOE to start Valley Downs Neighborhood Association and served as The first president 2 years. I have been serving on Citizens for Liberty since 2011 and currently serve as Treasurer. I have served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman since 2008 and have served as a Convention Delegate Four times. Hobbies are: Amateur Radio, gardening and photography.
