Current Occupation
Former Newspaper Publisher
I spent 40 years at the Wilkes Journal Patriot as either a reporter or a publisher. For the last 20 years, I have watched Virginia Foxx harm my community by tearing down public education and workplace protections as Chair of the Committee on Education and the Workforce. Foxx’s voting record speaks for itself: she continues to vote against the interests of the district she is supposed to represent. I can’t sit back and watch this happen any longer. My intimate knowledge of this district and its struggles positions me to represent my community in a completely different way.
I recognize that families are facing tough times. Prices are increasing and the cost-of-living is steadily rising. We need to acknowledge that families are struggling and we need increased wages to a livable standard. My top priority is to represent working class people. Costs are rising, wages aren’t keeping up with inflation, and small businesses can’t compete with corporations. Meanwhile, Congress just continues the bidding of mega corporations and the richest among us. I’m running to tell Congress it’s not about them, it’s about you.
I will do everything in my power to combat rising prices and the high cost-of-living. The federal minimum wage is still $7.25. This is unacceptable. We need to push for an increase to a livable standard. Additionally, I will be supporting bills like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which has helped North Carolina receive investment funds across the counties in the 5th district. The creation of quality, livable wage jobs will be a priority.
I believe that decreasing political polarization starts with holding everyone accountable on each side and being willing to extend your hand across the aisle to get work done. We’ve seen how refusal to compromise has increased political polarization and decreased our federal governments effectiveness, so we have to put aside the party politics and get work done for the people at home.
Our environment should be at the top of our mind when crafting effective legislation. Every person has a right to clean air and water and it’s up to Congress to make sure that’s obtainable. It starts with holding big corporations accountable and scaling back on data centers causing environmental harm. Climate change is real and a growing concern that needs to be addressed before it’s too late.
Over the past few years, I’ve built strong relationships across the district. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to flip this seat. I make sure to make my way around each corner of the district because the people deserve someone who goes out of their way to show up for them.

I have been a career truck driver for 27 years. Traveled every corner in the Nation that I can get myself to. From Keyport Washington to Key West Florida. I've seen it all. How our common language changes from area to area. The dialect may be different, but we are all Americans. I was at work on a Pepsi route on 9/11. Every stop that day got worse and worse with the news. The following days I seen how we can come together in times of need for the future. Since that time I've watched us get farther and farther divided by party line politics. Recently to the point where people are dying for their beliefs. I have seen first hand the best in us, and now I've witnessed the worst. I've stood up to give people a choice that goes beyond party lines
I would push for term and now, age limits for public office. I have always stood on the virtue of term limits, but recently it has expanded to age by the request of my supporters. I would like to end the "career politician" as it stands today, via sound legislation. I plan to use whatever weight I can carry to get that measure passed. Along with other measures such as banning stock trading and other financial investments for those that hold public office. If we can eliminate the abuse of the system they are sworn to uphold, we will get better candidates with the will of the people on their mind, instead of getting rich.
I'd love to eliminate income tax for individuals making less than 150k and households making 300k. How do we get there? Stop sending money overseas. Ending special interest investments. Cut back on the blank checks that currently being written until the government is scaled back and runs within a set budget. The only check I'll write is for strictly humanitarian aid in a time of crisis. The bloat has got to go. Politicians on TV talk about millions and billions of dollars like it's pocket change, while we live off the actual change in our pockets.
I plan to bring awareness to my vote. Send out a newsletter via email explaining why I voted the way I did. Get into the grit of the politics. Just recently Congress pushed a bill to eliminate insider trading. One of them attached voter ID to the same bill. It didn't pass. They should have stayed as two separate bills and got voted on individually, but they really didn't want to give up those stocks. Aiming to decrease the polarization and actually move the country forward in a sound, correct way for every citizen is my main priority and goal. They treat it like college sports and when they win, we all lose.
TBD. First question I've been asked on environmental policy.
I know for fact that sometimes in recent years that environmental policy has been pushed to the point of breaking. EPA regulations being fast forwarded on diesel vehicles to the point of making them utterly useless and costly. I've nearly been bankrupted by this technology in the beginning. It gets more and more dependable every day now. But in the beginning even fire trucks were catching fire because of it.
We must protect the rock we live on, but do it in a manner that's economically viable that we can live with. What we do only matters if the whole planet does it as well. We can't save it ourselves.
