I bring over 20 years of experience in healthcare, public policy, advocacy & community leadership. As Founder & CEO of HerHealth Consulting & former Executive Director of NC AIDS Action Network, I've worked with legislators, state agencies, healthcare providers & communities to turn real needs into policy solutions. I’m a proud Aggie, earning my Bachelor’s from NC A&T State University & a Demon Deacon, earning my Master’s in Healthcare Law & Policy from Wake Forest School of Law. Through efforts like Sofa Conversations, I bring people together around difficult issues, listen to lived experiences & connect people to resources and solutions. I have also served in Democratic Party leadership at the county, congressional district & state levels
My top priority is making North Carolina more affordable for the people who live and work here. I know what it feels like to watch housing, groceries, healthcare and energy costs rise while income does not keep pace. I support raising wages, protecting Medicaid and access to healthcare, investing in public education, expanding affordable housing and addressing rising utility costs. District 99 includes working families, seniors and UNC Charlotte students preparing to enter an uncertain job and housing market. Growth should create opportunity, not push people out. I want people to be able to afford to live, work, raise a family and build a future in the communities they call home.
Public education needs investment, stability, transparency and accountability. NC must fully fund our schools, pay educators and classified staff a livable wage, provide universal school meals and strengthen the educator pipeline. As CMS faces leadership transition, students and educators cannot become casualties of adult conflict. Local governments also need flexibility to fund schools when state or federal dollars fall short. Mecklenburg County invests hundreds of millions locally in CMS, including locally funded staff and teacher supplements. With UNC Charlotte in District 99, I will fight for the full education pipeline from strong K 12 schools through affordable higher education.
Tax policy should be fair, responsible and flexible enough to meet North Carolina’s changing needs. I support tax relief that helps working families and small businesses, but we also have to maintain the revenue needed for public schools, healthcare, infrastructure and other essential services. I am concerned about locking tax restrictions into our Constitution that could limit the ability of state or local governments to respond when federal funding falls, emergencies occur or communities grow. Good tax policy should balance affordability today with the long term fiscal stability needed to invest in North Carolina’s future.
Community safety requires prevention, preparedness and the right response for the situation. With UNC Charlotte in District 99, I have seen how investments in trained campus police, emergency communications, cameras, access controls & other safety technology can work together to protect students, with appropriate privacy & accountability safeguards. As a Mental Health Now 2026 Candidate, I also understand that public safety includes mental health. I support expanding mental health professionals, case managers & crisis response teams so law enforcement is not the only response to every crisis. We should learn from approaches that work & give officers, mental health professionals & communities the tools they need to keep people safe.
My work has always centered humanity, dignity & community safety for everyone who calls North Carolina home. That includes protecting immigrant communities in Charlotte, where fear of ICE activity & racial profiling creates real harm. Black & Brown people are often swept into systems based on appearance alone. I know this personally. My son is an American citizen, yet I live with the reality that profiling could place him in danger simply for existing. Community safety means protecting civil rights, ensuring due process & investing in care over fear. I believe leadership must be guided by compassion, evidence & respect for all people. Our communities are strongest when no one is treated as disposable & everyone is afforded dignity, grace & protection under the law. Whatever your views, I encourage every eligible voter to learn what is on the ballot, ask questions & make your voice heard. Democracy depends on participation & every election is an opportunity to exercise that right.
