IREDELL COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The 5-member Board sets the policy for the county, determining the strategic vision for the county, appoints a county manager, attorney and others to serve the county, adopts ordinances, including zoning, and establishes an annual budget, which includes setting the tax rate and calling bond referendums. Iredell County’s governing board is composed of 5 at-large members who have either a 4-year or 2-year term. In even-numbered years, elections are held in November for 3 seats on the board. The 2 candidates receiving the largest number of votes are given a 4-year term and the individual receiving the lesser amount receives a 2-year term. Pursuant to state law, Commissioners take their oaths of office on the 1st Monday in December following the election. Generally speaking, this is also the 1st meeting date for the new Board. In addition, the Chairman and Vice Chairman are selected by the Board members at this time.A referendum to restructure the terms of the Iredell Board of Commissioners so that members of the Board of Commissioners will be elected for overlapping four-year terms in accordance with G.S. § 153A-58(2)(c) was approved by the voters on the March 2024 ballot; this change will take effect with the 2026 general election.Information about the approved organizational restructuring can be found here: https://iredellcountync.gov/DocumentCenter/View/24028/structure-of-the-board

Born and raised in this county, working 31 years of it in law enforcement I have seen the day-to-day challenges that the growth has brought upon us all. Since taking office in December 2022, I have been and will continue to be vocal about the excessive high density residential growth. I've written hundreds of millions of dollars in budgets in my law enforcement career, and I want to make sure Iredell County is no over ran by excessive growth. We have brought both new and seen a lot of business and industrial expansions to bring in new jobs and high paying jobs to our county.
Growth! The Iredell County Commissioners since I took office in December of 2022 have been a solid NO on ETJ (Extended Territorial Releases) to the towns and city. ETJ allows the towns and city to come out into the county without annexation, I am a total NO on ETJ release unless it is for commercial, business, or industrial purposes. While annexations are allowed by state law that allows the towns and city to annex out into the county, I still voice my concern loudly! Towns and the City need to utilize existing space within the town/city limits before they acquire land out in the county for residential growth.
This fiscal year we have funded the school systems with over 170 million dollars alone for operating expense, capital outlay, debt service, and cash paid for new jail construction. The school systems have boards that set the budgets the schools work under. The State and Federal Gov't continue adjusting funding levels to our schools and we County Commissioners have no say on those decisions since to occur in Raleigh and Washington. Our funding continues to increase each year for our school systems from the County Commissioners, we want strong schools that help educate our children and at the same time bring in good jobs for our children.
Continue to keep one of the lowest tax rates in the region, continue to support, attract both new business, and existing businesses, companies, and industry.
We have a caring and dedicated staff of social services employees proving critical services to our citizens. I support them and the very important mission they do each and every day! Both Raleigh and Washington have been cutting and proposing even more funding cuts that will only flow down to the county to have to cover on mandated services. My hope is they will review these proposals and come up with solutions that best serve our citizens.
I'm not afraid to call things for what they really are, I'm not afraid to stand up for the people of Iredell County. It's about the people NOT politics and the developers that want to destroy our way of life as we know it with ridiculous high density residential growth!

Having served over 34 years in the military retiring as a Colonel, I know how to lead and how to handle people, material and money. I followed military service working in corporate America as a senior supply chain expert. In addition to my many years of experience, I have the required formal education with Masters degrees in Business Administration and National Resource Strategy.
Dealing with our rapid and uncontrolled growth is our biggest challenge. It effects everything to include our schools and public safety
The most effective role the County Commissioner can play is to lead from the front and make the hard decisions. They must develop a strategic plan and then execute that plan leading to the expected results.
As a supply chain expert, I will focus on bringing great businesses and industry into the county. This will ensure great jobs for our residents and help keep taxes as low as possible.
As a Rotarian and a Guardian Ad Litem, I have been very active with the quality of social services in our county. I will work hard to eliminate waste in order to provide the best services possible. Where there are gaps, I will work with the many non profits in our county to will those gaps.
