I’m a small business owner in Madison County since 2010 with a long history of serving Madison County through several volunteer roles. Probably the most important role was serving on the County’s Economic Development Board for just over 9 years. I love numbers and have an ability to see the “story” behind the numbers. This comes from over a decade of experience in banking and finance, 10 years of non-profit management, and a bachelors degree in business.
Our current commissioners have begun building an $89 million Public Service Complex without having all of the funding in place (there is a current $27-30 Million shortfall). Residents are angry that they were not aware of this which could fall to them as a possible property tax increase. The trust in our Commissioners has been lost and regaining that trust will take a significant amount of time and effort. The second important issue is to work to be prepared for the growth that is inevitable. Our current Comprehensive Plan (adopted in 2022) is sorely out of date already in part due to the devastation of Helene but also because the last plan was only an update to the 2010 plan. We need to create a full Comprehensive
Our children need to have the best education possible and the county commissioners need to work side-by-side with our school board. The school board has responsibility for education policy, academic standards, and operations while the county commission has responsibility for local tax rates, the funding authority for school budgets, and facility construction. As a commissioner, I would ensure that there are open and regular conversations between these two bodies with the focus being on the kids.
Our citizens are very concerned about their property taxes and the potential increase that is being discussed to cover the unfunded portion of the Public Service Complex. Folks are financially strapped already! The county needs to hire an economic development staff to proactively work to attract businesses to our county and at the same time, the county needs to be actively working on addressing our affordable housing crisis. We cannot expect to attract a company to our county if their employees aren’t able to afford to live here. We currently do not have long term rentals which are an important component to solving the housing crisis. I’m also very concerned about the lack of housing opportunities for our seniors.
Our department of social services does a great job overseeing a variety of programs and services helping those individuals and families in need. As a commissioner, I want to ensure that the DSS Board and staff continue to have the funding, the tools, and the support that they need to help our citizens function and thrive. While staff turnover has improved tremendously over the years, a goal would be to continue to make improvements to lower the turnover rate to be in the best 10% of the state.
I will SHOW UP – not just to required meetings and not just before an election I will LISTEN with an open mind to what people are saying I will REPRESENT and RESPECT everyone in our county I will be HONEST and TRANSPARENT And, I will always act with INTEGRITY.

I hope that you will vote for me as County Commissioner for Madison County on November 3rd.

Thank you for reading this!
