The national debt is $39 trillion — that's over $108,000 per American. The Big Beautiful Bill alone added $3.4 trillion just to give billionaires yet another tax break. Even after DOGE slashed the federal government, we're still running a deficit. And the president's reckless war with Iran is only making it worse.

We can reduce the deficit by reforming our tax code so the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share, generating the revenue needed to protect Social Security, Medicare, and other essential programs. We must also scrutinize agency budgets — like ICE's — to ensure funding matches the mission and not a political agenda. But that work has to be done seriously and in a bipartisan way, not with a chainsaw approach like DOGE.
Congress needs to get serious about protecting Social Security before it's too late. Reform will likely require a combination of approaches, but one of the most impactful steps we can take is lifting the Social Security tax cap and requiring high-income earners to contribute their fair share. Right now, a billionaire stops paying into Social Security early in the year while working families contribute all year long. That's wrong, and fixing it alone is estimated to extend Social Security's solvency by at least 75 years. This critical benefit must be there for current and future retirees, and I will always fight to protect it.
Our immigration system is broken and antiquated, unable to keep pace with the modern needs of our country. Comprehensive immigration reform is long overdue. Reform must strengthen our economy, keep families together, secure our border, and put a clear, fair, and achievable pathway to citizenship at the center. People who have built their lives here, paid taxes, and contributed to their communities deserve a real chance to make the U.S. their permanent home.

Equally important is securing our border and enforcing immigration laws in ways that reflect our values and our Constitution, refocusing DHS on its core mission, limiting unilateral expansions of detention facilities, and prohibiting the use of federal funds to detain children.
I'm not a politician. I've spent my career as a nonpartisan public servant, working under both Republican and Democratic administrations alongside people with different backgrounds and views. Real progress happens when you stay focused on the mission and the people you serve — and that's how I've tackled some of our nation's toughest national security challenges.

My starting question will always be: what actually helps Nebraska families? Good ideas come from both parties, and if a proposal lowers costs or improves people's lives, I'll support it, regardless of who introduced it. What I won't do is go along with chaos or blind loyalty to any president or party. My focus is the people of the First District, not Washington personalities.

My plan to address the deficit is targeted and program specific. First, I have a common sense proposal to create an origination tax for any asset or stock received in lieu of salary valued in excess of $250,000. The purpose would be to generate much needed tax revenue while plugging a tax loophole favored by the ultra-rich. Second, I propose removing the cap on Social Security tax. Lifting the cap would significantly delay or prevent insolvency. To be clear, I do not support a wealth tax and instead wish to address tax avoidance and our deficit with a policy of fairness. By plugging loopholes and amending the tax code to ensure that the wealthy pay their fair share, we can address the deficit without penalizing top earners.
The easiest and best means of extending the solvency of Social Security without cutting benefits is to simply lift the cap on social security tax for high earners. Removing the cap could generate an estimated $3.2 trillion in new revenue over 10 years. In my opinion, this is must pass legislation to restore faith in the U.S. Government's ability to meet it's obligations to our citizens.
I am committed to passing the Dignity Act which improves border security while providing legal status, but not citizenship, to undocumented immigrants through a 7-year "[Dignity Program]". It includes worker programs, asylum reform, and a path for Dreamers.

I will block funding for ICE enforcement until the Dignity Act or a similarly, humane bipartisan bill is brought to the floor for a vote.

It is my view that our diversity is what makes us strong as a nation. We are all temporary stewards of this land which first belonged to Nebraska’s native tribes. I am grateful for the freedom I have to live, work and raise a family here. I sincerely hope to make that freedom more attainable for others.
I believe income inequality is the single greatest threat to Western civilization. Our economy is completely propped up by the value of a handful of enterprises which do not build, manufacture or create anything but more intangible wealth. Working people have been driven to the razor's edge of poverty and in many cases are living hand-to-mouth. We must restore the social compact and hope in the attainment narrative which has driven innovation, productivity, and the determination of a workforce to create a better life for the next generation. Failing this, I fear that social order will rapidly decay and many people will take power through violent means. I am committed to defusing the ticking bomb created by income inequality.
