Over their two-year term, a JP is responsible for:Setting real estate, personal property and sales tax rates in the county.Determining the final budget for county departments and offices - including salaries - and appropriating funds for county expenses.Preserving the peace and order in the county, though they do not have the authority to make any offense a felony. This often takes the form of passing county laws and in some counties making planning decisions.Contract or join with any other county or city, or the federal government for a public purpose.Creating, consolidating, separating, or abandoning any elected office in the county if first approved by voters.Filling vacancies in elected county offices.Providing for any service or performance of any function related to county affairs.Many Quorum Courts also have subcommittees that JPs serve on and discuss the more nitty gritty details before an issue appears before the whole group. As a Justice of the Peace, I would serve on the Quorum Court to represent the people of my district by listening to their concerns and advocating for their needs. The role involves voting on county ordinances and resolutions, approving and overseeing the county budget, and helping set priorities for county services and programs. It also requires working with the County Judge and other officials to ensure county government operates responsibly, transparently, and in the best interest of the community.
I bring experience in community service and ethical leadership that prepares me to serve as Justice of the Peace in Clark County. I am skilled in listening carefully, communicating clearly, and handling sensitive matters with fairness, professionalism, and confidentiality. I also have strong organizational skills and a commitment to following established procedures. Above all, I am dedicated to serving the people of Clark County with integrity and respect.
The first thing I plan to do when I take office is to ensure continuity and stability in the Justice of the Peace office. If current procedures are working effectively, I do not believe in making changes simply for the sake of change. I will take time to learn the role thoroughly, follow established practices, and carry out the duties of the office as intended. My focus will be on serving the public consistently, fairly, and professionally while maintaining the standards already in place.
