City of Amarillo - Teen Court Coordinator Amarillo ISD - Educator
1. Truancy court - working closer with schools to ensure students are in class and learning. Finding solutions for students who leave school on their own accord. 2. Strengthen relationships between APD, DPS, and attorneys to ensure effectiveness and cooperation. 3. Allow office staff to provide feedback on any processes they feel could benefit the office in order to best serve the citizens.
My judicial philosophy is one that focuses on ensuring that the average citizen leaves the courtroom feeling they were heard and treated fairly, regardless of the legal outcome. This can be done by exhibiting patience and clarity, using plain English and not legal jargon, enacting a fair and problem solving approach with the ultimate goal of resolving community conflict. A judge should be a servant of the law and a neighbor to the community.
I am a licensed attorney, graduating with honors from Texas Tech. I was a Briefing Attorney for the Federal District Court and State Appellate Court for 27 years and worked on criminal matters, post-conviction habeas corpus review, civil administrative matters, and civil law cases. I am the only attorney running, and the only candidate with judicial, law firm, and clerk's office experience. I have been a residential landlord for 28 years and I am currently a CFO of a small contruction company.
Properly and uniformly implement Senate Bill 38 (eff. 1/1/26) which streamlines eviction processes and provides for the expedited removal of unauthorized occupants. Efficient docket managment with monthly scheduling of criminal cases where Show Cause Orders have issued, weekly scheduling of all ripe student truancy and contributing to non-attendance cases, and by employing timely calendaring procedures to ensure small claim cases are heard within 60 days after the Defendant has filed a denial.
My approach has always been based on a committment to preparation, impartiality, and the application of established legal principles and textual interpretation. I strive to reach decisions that are legally sound, rational, and fair, using practical legal reasoning and factual analysis based on the case-specific evidence, and applying established legal precedents to maintain consistency within the legal system. I have never had an opinion I have written for the Courts overturned.

My background aligns well with the duties of a JP. A bachelor’s degree in theology grounds me in ethics and sound judgment. As the owner of an insurance and financial agency for 24 years. I gained extensive experience in contracts, regulations, and dispute resolution. As an ER Trauma Chaplain and Citizen Police Academy graduate, I understand inquests and law enforcement processes. As an AISD substitute, mentor, and longtime community coach supports fair handling of truancy and community matters.
The top three issues are truancy, community relationships, and transparency. I would work proactively with schools to address truancy early, help build stronger ties between tenants and landlords, and support financial education. Addressing issues early reduces cases and costs and allows the court to operate more effectively maintaining transparency and public trust.
My judicial philosophy is to faithfully apply the law with fairness, consistency, and compassion. I believe in upholding the Constitution, ensuring due process, and treating every person with dignity and respect. When possible, I support proactive and educational solutions that reduce conflict, strengthen community trust, and serve both justice and the public good.
