As State Representative, my duty is to serve as a voice for District 74 and a steward of Arkansas's resources. This involves three key roles: First, crafting evidence-based policies that improve the health and safety of our workers, students, families, from expanding maternal healthcare to addressing food insecurity. Second, providing rigorous fiscal oversight on the various committees to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent transparently on essential services like public education, social programs, and infrastructure. Finally, I serve as a bridge for my constituents, listening to their concerns and helping them navigate state agencies.
My qualifications are rooted in 33 years as an Arkansas educator and coach, having taught in every type of school - rural, urban, public, and private - across every geographic region of our state. This unique background allows me to bring a statewide perspective to the Capitol. As a former Minority Leader and current member of the various legislative committees, I have the legislative experience to navigate complex budgets and advocate for evidence-based laws. I combine the heart of a teacher with the skills of a seasoned lawmaker to build bipartisan solutions.
My first priority is ensuring fiscal accountability for our state's rapidly growing voucher program. As 'Education Freedom Accounts' expand toward universal eligibility, we must provide rigorous oversight to protect taxpayer dollars and ensure these funds don't undermine our constitutional duty to fully fund public schools. I will work across the aisle to require transparent reporting on enrollment and program outcomes to maintain a balanced state budget. I also remain committed to my ongoing legislative work improving maternal health access, strengthening domestic violence protections, and passing evidence-based policies to address food insecurity and criminal justice reform.
