Over their two-year term, a constable has the same law enforcement authority as a sheriff in their township. They have arrest power, can write citations, and respond to accidents. A 2007 law, however, placed training requirements on constables if they wanted to carry a gun on duty and have access to the Arkansas Crime Information Center. State law also requires them to wear uniforms while on duty and label any patrol vehicle with "Arkansas Constable" on it. They are required to turn over any fines collected from citations to the county.Under state law, they no longer have authority to appoint deputies. The Constable serves the community by executing Court orders,serving legal documents, maintaining public peace, and supporting local law enforcement when needed. The role requires professionalism, fairness, and a strong understanding of the law. In a small town, the constable is also a public servant who knows the community, listens to its concerns, and works to ensure safety while treating every individual with dignity and respect.
I have lived in this township for 25 yrs. I am also involved with the local Fire Department. Serving 11 yrs and currently serving as Assistant Chief. I have worked side by side with local law enforcement when needed.
I will improve both visibility and accessibility by making myself approachable and by making residents feel comfortable asking me questions or raising concerns. And by attending as many local events that I can.
