What training, experience and background make you the best qualified candidate to be your party’s nominee for this office?

What are the two (2) most pressing issues that you will face in the office that you seek? Describe your specific plans/ideas for addressing these issues.

With over 25 years of experience in complex litigation and mediation, I am committed to justice, equality, and respect. I have served as an Independent Hearing Examiner for the Texas Education Agency, a court-appointed receiver, and a guardian ad litem. I teach law at Thurgood Marshall School of Law and am a Texas Bar College member. My background demonstrates integrity, fairness, and strong community engagement.
Two pressing issues are improving access to justice and reducing case backlogs. I will promote efficient docket management through proactive scheduling and the use of technology to streamline hearings. I will encourage mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods where appropriate to resolve cases faster. Additionally, I will ensure that all parties, regardless of resources, receive fair treatment, clear communication, and respect throughout the judicial process.

I have 23 years of courtroom experience - 18 years as an litigating attorney in criminal and civil matters, and 5 years as a judge. I was appointed as Associate Judge in January 2021. Since that time, I have proudly served all of Fort Bend County, presiding over felony criminal matters and complex civil cases - the same types of cases handled in the 268th District Court. As a judge, I have presided of dozens of jury trials and hundreds of non-jury trials, making me the most qualified nominee.
First, this Court has a backlog of over 700 more active civil and criminal cases than the other courts. Once elected, I will implement a Docket Control Order, setting deadlines and trial in all cases. This will ensure fair and timely justice for the parties, as well as for victims and their families. Also, within 60 days of taking office, I will set a DWOP (dismissal for want of prosecution) docket to make sure all cases that are not being prosecuted are removed from the caseload. Second, integrity and judicial temperament will be restored. Everyone will be treated with respect and dignity and will have an opportunity to be heard. No one will be treated as guilty from the onset.
