An elected school board member serves a three-year term. The school board represents the concerns of citizens, taxpayers and parents to the school administrators, and represents the needs of the students and school district to citizens, taxpayers and parents. The school board does not operate the district on a day-to-day basis; that is the job of the superintendent (the district’s chief executive). Rather, the school board sets policies, goals and objectives for the district, and holds the superintendent responsible for implementing those policies and goals. I’m running to bring transparency and fiscal responsibility to our school board. As a former board member, I understand the budget process and the importance of ensuring every dollar is used to support students and teachers. I bring both experience and a commitment to open, accountable leadership.
My top goals are: (1) Strengthening fiscal responsibility by closely reviewing the budget to make sure resources are directed toward classrooms, teachers, and student programs, not wasted on unnecessary spending. (2) Increasing transparency by making board decisions more accessible and understandable to the public, so families feel informed and included in the process. (3) Building stronger communication and trust between the board, parents, and the community, ensuring that concerns are heard and that every family has a voice in shaping the future of our schools.
Test scores are one way to measure student progress, but they don’t tell the whole story. If improvements are needed, I would focus on supporting teachers with the tools and resources they need, investing in early intervention for students who are struggling, and strengthening family engagement so learning continues at home. By prioritizing both strong instruction and student well-being, we can raise achievement in a balanced and sustainable way.
Student safety has to be a top priority. I believe we need a balanced approach that includes secure facilities, clear emergency procedures, and strong partnerships with local law enforcement. At the same time, safety also means supporting students’ mental health and addressing concerns before they escalate. By combining physical security measures with counseling and prevention programs, we can create a safe environment where students can focus on learning.
