Stephentown Town Council

The Town Council is the legislative body responsible for making laws and ordinances that govern the town and overseeing their implementation. Town council members are responsible for overseeing the departments, such as the fire department, and highway department. They are responsible for approving the town budget. They may hold public hearings on important issues facing the town. Town council members work with the supervisor, who is the chief executive officer of the town, to make decisions about the town. Council members are elected for 4 year terms - 2 council members are elected every 2 years.

I have extensive experience with working as a team member on various projects, including managing stores, being the team lead on various programming projects, and 28 years experience running my own business, Caracal Software.

I have excellent writing, research, and communication skills. I’m computer literate, and hope to find ways that will be useful to the town council. I believe progress is made the quickest when everyone has a stake in the outcome, and when everyone’s voice is heard.
I’m concerned with establishing a good working infrastructure for safety during natural emergencies, and reducing energy costs for Stephentown residents by finding affordable ways for citizens to move to alternative and/or more efficient energy.

I will work to bring enjoyable entertainment to Stephentown that benefits the public in general, such as fairs, art shows, plays and concerts. We have some excellent programs already through the Stephentown Memorial Library, and I would like to see more options through other venues as well.
I’m passionate about privacy. The amount of personal information taken from us without our knowledge or consent is huge, and it’s mostly done by businesses and services we trusted, who then sell it to other data brokers. I want to work to help people control their personal information as much as possible.

I believe most people are generally decent, and are inclined to help each other when they can. I believe we have more in common then we have differences, and would work to bring people together and strengthen ties so that we all have each other’s back.

Books such as “The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World” by Robin Wall Kimmerer show how everyone benefits and profits when we share resources, and “Hope for Cynics” by Jamil Zaki gives proof that people who are more trusting benefit more than people who mistrust others by default. These are not pie-in-the-sky, wide-eyed wishing books, but prove their points through scientific studies. We all benefit when w
