Mental health/Public Safety, Affordable housing, High cost of living.
Mental Health/Crime:
Crime stats are down, but we have a mental health crisis. Mentally ill individuals who are arrested need an alternative to Rikers Island; we need more forensic beds. We must address underlying causes of crime while holding people accountable.
Affordable Housing:
1) Protect existing affordable units; 2) Fund new affordable units; 3) Get vacant units on the market, private & NYCHA; 4) Fund Community Land Trusts and Mitchell-Lama Co-ops; 5) Set Average Medium Income locally not federally; 6) Provide and utilize more vouchers with oversight.
High Cost of Living:
NYC must address the high cost of housing, childcare & food insecurity with government support. We can make public transit more affordable, and provide more support to New Yorkers with adult education (CUNY’s returning students), workforce development, and reduced taxes.
If re-elected, I would be honored to continue serving on the City Council. In my next term, I would prioritize addressing the mental health crisis, fighting for affordability, and working toward a budget that funds quality education and mental health services.
Quality education that is funded, from free early childcare, to decreasing absenteeism in K-12, to more support for CUNY.
The challenge is funding, including more funding for quality teachers and professors, wrap-around services, and affordable housing for everyone, so they can stay in NYC.
