The top three issues that we are facing in my district are the quality of life issues that are plaguing the neighborhood. Like the loud and obnoxious music that blasts all night, to illegally parked vehicles that use city streets as storage. The second biggest issue in my district is the safety issues that plague the district. The illegal scooters that run red lights and are unregistered with no regard for pedestrian safety and have no way of being tracked down. This is very pressing matter that has to be addressed right away. The third pressing issue that we face in the district is Education, there are many students who need to receive additional services that are essential to their educational growth and they are not receiving when the schools are receiving the funding for those additional services. I am fighting to get these students the services they deserve.
The way I would address these quality of life issues and the safety is by holding agencies accountable to do their jobs the right way, trying to secure funding for the agency's that help curb these issues. The NYPD is one of the agency's that needs to get more man power we cannot have three cars to a precinct holding five calls each this is over taxing officers and causing them to underperform in their duties. This also extends into the DOE as well, we have to hold schools accountable for giving students the education they deserve and the services they need, we can not have students that require a para not getting the services which is causing them to be underperforming for their grade level.
Making sure retirees are being taken care of with there Health Insurance. I want to pass a bill for the retirees since if your spouse dies the health insurance dies with them, meaning that the widow would be without insurance, I would be looking to expand it for 90 days for them to have coverage. Second to like to pass a bill that considers animals family and not property. If a bystander strikes a person pet and hurts them it is only considered property damage, no charges can be filed. My third priority is safety in my neighborhood, that means more than just policing it’s about well-lit streets, safe parks, and making sure our kids and seniors feel secure walking in their own neighborhood. I want to work with residents, community organizations, and first responders to create a safety plan that reflects our needs not just a one-size-fits-all approach. Everyone deserves to feel safe where they live, and that starts with listening and taking action together.
The most ambitious goal I would like to achieve is passing a bill that helps widows who recently lost a loved to have health coverage 90 days after their spouse passes, since the health insurance coverage normally expires when they pass.
The hardest part would be getting the local state officials to agree with this bill.
