Sanitation, public safety and education
Since taking office, I have secured funding for supplemental manual litter patrols across the district. I also worked with nonprofits and funded graffiti removal. One ongoing challenge has been dumping, and I have worked with DSNY to identify illegal dumping locations and requested dumping cameras in those locations. Finally, I have pushed for increased enforcement of street vendors who often leave large amounts of trash on our commercial corridors.

Regarding public safety, I work closely with my police precincts to determine safety concerns and how to respond appropriately. For example, I worked with my local precinct and funded the installation of several ARGUS police cameras around Kissena Corridor Park after a violent assault occurred in the park.

I work closely with both UFT and CSA, the unions representing teachers and principals, to determine how to improve our schools. I'm particularly proud that we will be breaking ground on a brand new school in Flushing, the first new school to be constructed here in a long time.
I have been fighting for our neighbors in the Council and will continue that work.
Flushing downtown has seen a major growth in congestion. Last year, I passed a law requiring the city's Department of Transportation to examine the feasibility of building a bus transit center to help alleviate the congestion, which would be a major benefit to bus riders, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike.
Funding and red tape. I know that it is an ambitious goal and requires substantial funding, but I believe that we can make it happen. However, we need to ensure that city and state agencies do not drag their feet. This has been a goal for different elected officials going back to the 1970s and the problem has only worsened. Flushing is home to over 20 bus routes and to one of the busiest subway stops in the city - it's past time to move this plan forward.
