As a proven conservative reformer, I will prioritize fixing our congested and crumbling roads and infrastructure to deal with the growth we are seeing in our part of the state, lower taxes and regulatory burdens for our small businesses, and improve educational opportunties for every student in South Carolina.
Every child in South Carolina deserves the opportunity to have the choice of an educational environment that works best for their learning needs. My wife and I both graduated from public schools in Spartanburg County, and my two oldest children are in public school (grades 7 and 5). I support our public school system and recent reforms passed by the legislature to help attract and retain great teachers for our public schools. I also support school choice and providing opportunities for children who need another option, such as my youngest daughter (grade 3) who has learning differences and is homeschooled to provide an environment that supports her learning needs. This includes full funding for public school resources in the classroom to help students with disabilities, whether physical or developmental. Additionally, I will advocate for policies that recognize parents have the ultimate decision-making authority in their children’s education and encourage parental involvement.
The federal government has made Medicaid unsustainable by promising more than it can deliver, and South Carolina cannot tax and spend our way out of Washington’s shortfall. My priority is to protect our most vulnerable—children, seniors, and people with disabilities—while promoting reforms that reduce waste, fight fraud, and empower families to choose the care that works best for them. We should partner with faith-based and community organizations who have always stepped up to care for those in need, while working to grow our economy so more people can access private insurance through good jobs. As a Christian, I believe we are called to care for the least of these, and I’ll work to ensure we meet those needs in a way that is responsible, compassionate, and sustainable for South Carolina’s future.
South Carolina must be a good steward of the resources God has entrusted to us. The growth of AI and other large impact industries brings opportunities for our economy, but it also creates new demands on our infrastructure and energy grid. I’ll work to make sure our communities come first when it comes to reliable and affordable utilities to avoid the brown-outs and skyrocketing costs seen in other parts of the country. We also need to strengthen our existing utilities, as we saw in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. That means requiring transparency from large users, investing in resilient infrastructure, and supporting an all-of-the-above energy strategy that includes natural gas, nuclear, and renewables. Recently, Spartanburg County announced a data center that will produce its own energy onsite to prevent additional strain on the power grid in neighboring communities. I support encouraging projects that adopt this approach.
As a father, I understand the deep desire many families have to welcome children into their lives, and I believe IVF should remain available with legal protections. Similarly, access to contraceptives is a personal decision that should be made by a woman and her doctor. At the same time, I support ensuring these practices are carried out responsibly and ethically, consistent with protecting life. My priority is safeguarding both individual freedoms and family values while keeping government from overreaching into these personal medical decisions.
