I’m running because North Minneapolis deserves leadership that fights for us, not against us. Too many families in Ward 4 are struggling with unsafe housing, rising rents, and toxic air. I know because I live it. As the founder of Minnesota Wrongfully Convicted Judicial Reform, I’ve taken on powerful systems and won. I bring both lived experience and a proven track record of organizing for change. Our community needs a fighter who will put people before profit and demand accountability at City Hall.
First, housing justice. Corporate landlords and slumlords profit while families live in unsafe conditions. I will push for strict enforcement, tenant protections, and support for responsible homeowners and landlords who follow the rules.
Second, environmental justice. Ward 4 carries the burden of some of Minnesota’s worst polluters, including Owens Corning right here in our backyard one of the state’s top three biggest polluters. Add HERC to the list, and it’s clear our community has been treated as disposable. That ends with me.
We must stop predatory landlords from destabilizing families. I support the STOP Slumlords ordinance, expanded renter protections, and enforcement that hits landlords in their pockets if they fail their tenants. On the homeownership side, I will fight for down payment assistance, land trusts, and public investment that gives Ward 4 families a fair chance at building wealth instead of being displaced by outside investors. Housing is a human right, and I won’t compromise on that.
North Minneapolis has been used as a dumping ground for decades. From the HERC burner to Owens Corning’s toxic emissions, our families breathe air that leaders wouldn’t tolerate in their own neighborhoods. I will push to address the HERC, hold Owens Corning accountable, and invest in green infrastructure trees, stormwater upgrades, and renewable energy that makes Ward 4 resilient. Climate justice here is about racial justice, and I will not back down from polluters who profit while our kids get sick.
City Council has too often ignored the grassroots groups who are already keeping our neighborhoods safe. Real safety starts with community housing, jobs, youth programs, and violence prevention not just more police calls. The Council has a responsibility to fund these groups, ensure accountability, and expand their work. For too long, leadership has failed to invest in our people. I will make sure our community groups have the resources and respect they deserve.
