Qualifications Business owner, former volunteer firefighter of Batesburg SC, volunteer for various organizations, non-profit experience, motivated individual with a love of my town.
I have lived and been a part of this community for most of my life. It appears there has been negativity growing in our municipality for some time and I believe we need to bring a positive working environment back into our community. It helps to develop ideas and better leadership throughout our community. I believe solution mindedness is a better route to take.
We need to look at our town ordinances when it comes to the responsibility of clearing property and drainage ditches and adjust and/or enforce them accordingly. We also have to work closely with our county and state officials from our area as well as SCDOT to complete an overall plan and agreement of responsibility for the areas of our town with flooding and stormwater issues. Also, I have shown citizens how they can step in and help by cleaning the street drains that are close to them on their streets. This helps to keep trash and debris out of the pipes which will keep the water draining more smoothly. It is always better when the community contributes to making our BL the best town possible.
As for public transportation in BL, I believe that it has been looked into and the value of the service to our citizens would be awesome, but it appears there has not been enough interest to warrant public transportation to be added to our area. It was tried several years ago and was not able to sustain itself, and it was stopped. In the future we may see the needs arise that will help the people in this area.
I want to create a positive approach to taking action in our community. We all know there are infrastructure issues with stormwater. We also need to work with our planning commission and zoning board to set proper ordinances and protocols for land areas and building in our town. There need to be updated ordinances, some that would require setbacks. We need assurance there is room for emergency response vehicles to be able to easily reach and to safely protect homes. This would require that structures are built with enough clearance for access. Our budget is a major priority. I would also like to see term limits set for council and mayor, improvements in the areas of sidewalk maintenance, streetlights, general town upkeep, etc.
