Any degree of complacency or anything short of eternal vigilance towards preserving our quality of life is the biggest threat here. There are so many factors that lead to/provide for the quality we enjoy (most didn't happen accidentally - they came along due to vision and intentionality), and there are many and evolving risks that can and will challenge it. A sustained and heightened commitment to assess how things are going, what is working well and what is under stress, and a willingness to advance policies and resources that can protect our quality of life is what it will always take to keep Greenville such a beloved place to call home.
Continued investments in our public transit system and sustained partnership with the entities and agencies who also support transportation in the City of Greenville and within neighboring communities. Maintaining transit as a priority (which it has been for numerous years) ensures this important issue gets the attention and resources it deserves. It is also important to continuously look for and consider emerging and alternate/complimentary forms of transit. There are many high/new tech methods on the horizon that promise to alter the way we move around in the coming years, but at the same time we've also seen some "low-tech" and long-standing methods prove to be very popular in our community (bicycles, pedicabs, trolleys, etc.).
I'm proud of the role City Council has played over my tenure to encourage affordable housing options for all. The manner in which we have sought to elevate the priority level of affordable housing and to accelerate the availability of the same throughout the city is indicative of what our citizens should expect Council to continue to do. From establishing the Greenville Housing Fund to allocating millions of dollars dedicated in support of affordable housing, from donations of land restricted for this purpose to maintaining a steady dialogue throughout our community to help assess the types of need, the available options, and the willing partners - it truly takes a village. The City Council will continue to lead on this important issue.
