Experience
I am currently in my first term as a legislator and have sponsored and co-sponsored numerous bills to support the sixth district, veterans, open space preservation, sewer projects, public safety, and sought fiscal responsibility while the County did not pierce the tax cap. I have also provide numerous presentations for the sixth district including senior scams, choices and consequences, small business seminar, Veteran Owned Business Convention, blood drives, and roundtables to hear from the civics and chambers.
The County has received a few bond rating increases in the last two years and I expect it to continually improve. This helps to reduce interest rates which saves residents money and in the future. I also approved workforce housing projects in the last two years to make housing more affordable.
I voted for the 50/50 split of sewers systems and I/A systems to reduce nitrogen in our community. I am looking forward to reviewing how that split is working in the future to ensure it is properly split. At the same time, I have informed residents about the I/A system and how it can benefit homes and the environment at the same time. Further, I approved sewer studies and projects in the sixth district and all of Suffolk County.
I am reviewing the most cost effective and environmentally friendly approach to removing waste off Long Island.
I seek to communicate with the people in my district with numerous programs and roundtables to discuss the issues and how we can work together to solve them. I welcome people to call, email, or stop by to discuss any issue or concern that arises. I seek to keep the residents up to date with policies while also communicating with County wide organizations to ensure I have an understanding of second and third order effects when legislation is proposed.
We will have to look at what funding is cut and what the County can afford to cover the cost of. We also will have to work with local organizations to fill in the need for programs that may see a step back in funding.
Suffolk County is home to the largest population of veterans in New York. I have and continue to advocate for the veteran community at all levels of government. I sponsored legislation to address some of the issues in the community while working with the State and Federal elected officials to inform them of issues at their level of government.
A second issue affecting Suffolk County is human trafficking. I have joined a couple of groups to discuss this issue deeper and how we at the County level can combat trafficking. I am introducing legislation to combat trafficking at the County level while also advocating for the Courts to continue having Human Trafficking Intervention Courts for adults and juveniles.
