High Bridge is governed under the Borough form of New Jersey municipal government. The governing body consists of a Mayor and a Borough Council, with all positions elected at-large on a partisan basis as part of the November general election. A Mayor is elected directly by the voters to a four-year term of office. The Borough Council consists of six members elected to serve three-year terms on a staggered basis, with two seats coming up for election each year in a three-year cycle. The Borough form of government used by High Bridge is a weak mayor / strong council government in which council members act as the legislative body with the mayor presiding at meetings and voting only in the event of a tie. The mayor can veto ordinances subject to an override by a two-thirds majority vote of the council. The Borough Council decides committee and liaison assignments for council members. Appointments are made by the mayor with the advice and consent of the council.

I felt that the time was right to apply for the position, due to the fact there would be an open seat on council, since one of the previous councilpersons chose not to run again. I feel that it's my civic duty to do so, noting that I am retired and have the time. I have attended several council meetings and have listened to residents who have come to the meetings with queries and noted the responses from mayor and council.
I served previously on borough council and would bring my knowledge and background to help in our borough's future endeavors. Also being an educator, I think my background would help mayor and council.
As a member of council, I will focus on better communication in our borough. I would advocate for bringing back "The Bridge" in printed form. I would also like to form an inter-committee group, comprised of council/volunteers who meet quarterly to discuss and plan borough events, so that all residents and the general public know of activities within our borough. I would also look into the possibility of leasing out Springside Farm to help with offsetting of taxes, since it is on our tax rolls as open space and is not currently being used, due to its location and accessibility within the borough.
To represent the people of our municipality who trust us to do the right thing by them. To make sure our municipality is safe and that all members of our borough are treated fairly and equally.
Law enforcement should be following the rules set forth by our government of due process, and assure that warrants are provided by U.S. Immigration and Customs Service. ICE members should identify themselves and report to the local law enforcement prior to any actions that they may take, and show proof of warrants as well as probable cause, as per the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Law enforcement should arrest those who do not show probable cause but also having no warrants- that would constitute kidnapping of a person if this were to happen- and these person should be arrested upon those charges.
