I am running for a seat on town council to serve our community by implementing the interests of our residents that will best improve the borough. As a resident of Hightstown since 2008, I have volunteered with multiple local organizations and served on two Commissions in the Borough. I have also been the main organizer of a borough-wide series of events, Hightstown Fun Fridays, for the past 4 years.
One of my main priorities is increasing clear communication between our residents and local government. We currently have thorough, but unofficial, council meeting recaps being posted to social media. To increase transparency, I'd like to have the public portions of council meetings live streamed and recorded. This would give more of our residents the ability to see what happens in our meetings and find out more about what is going on in the borough. I'm also hoping I can help expedite any planned improvements to our parks, expand the current variety of community events offered, and continue with progress the current council has made with the water treatment plant upgrades and rug mill property redevelopment.
It would depend on the issue being discussed. If possible, I would ask the residents for potential solutions to whatever the issue is and see if there is a way to compromise. If no compromise can be found, I would look for a solution that is most beneficial to the residents of our borough.
As a local government official responding to an ICE inquiry, my primary responsibility is to know our community's policies regarding immigration enforcement, uphold constitutional rights, and facilitate communication with legal resources rather than engaging directly with ICE agents.
