Affordability is the most important issue facing Legislative District 1. New Yorkers are already among the highest taxed in the nation, and is second to only California in outward migration. Adding to the problem in District 1 are the out of control rate hikes by Con Edison and NYSEG, as well as the New York City Congestion Pricing which affects suburban commuters.

The most important issue facing Westchester County as a whole is pubic safety, which is another reason New York is second in outward migration. The misguided 2018 Immigrant Protection Act is a prime example. This law states (among other things) that an "inmate's release from custody shall not be delayed for a suspected federal immigration offense in the absence of a judicial warrant." This endangers public safety, violates federal law, infringes upon long established principles of law enforcement cooperation, and jeopardizes millions in federal public safety grants by making Westchester a sanctuary county.
