My experience with advocating for public policies, dedication to civic engagement, and history of public service makes me the best candidate. My career has been based in creating lasting and positive change to benefit everyone. I work in collaboration with people to put forth innovative, solution-based, and action-oriented policies. I care about protecting our workforce and prevailing wages, understand the relationship between housing and economic development opportunities, and will not hesitate to ask critical questions as well as analyze plans and policies put forth. I believe in investing in all people as a way to create a path of prosperity for generations to come. Duluth has a lot of potential as a city to flourish.
The following are my top three priorities. Economic development opportunities include providing living wages, supporting local businesses, and advancing workforce development programs. Fair housing includes a multitude of different housing options such as for elders, transitional housing, and identify ways people can invest in homeownership. Community safety means everyone deserves to be safe in our neighborhoods such as we need to look at local gun safety policies.
City Councilors have a critical role in representing all people from different backgrounds and must protect our human and civil rights. I have built relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. Through these relationships, I will lend my voice as a city councilor and speak up for concerns people bring forth. I plan to host community gatherings so we can continue building relationships and move forward in a productive way to thrive for generations to come.
I am a civic engaged leader who believes in and is willing to fight for our community. I plan to hold regular community forums, engage with my constituents, and communicate with the people living in our city as an elected official on a regular basis. I plan to speak up and hold people accountable when needed in a compassionate and clear way. Our community members deserve to be aware of actions and decisions made by our city government and how it may impact their livelihood.

I have served on the City Council after unanimously being voted by council to fill a vacant seat. I am currently President of the Council, again being unanimously voted by my peers. I was given the moniker “progressive pragmatist” by our former Mayor, Don Ness and our former City Administrator modified it to Pragmatist with a Heart. I have served on many boards and commissions over the years, a few of which are the Human Rights Commission, the Public Utilities Commission, the Intergovernmental Commission, the ESST task force and the mayor’s task force on childcare. I have been the Council liaison to Parks and Rec and Libraries and also Public Safety. The relationships I have developed allow me to be in regular conversation with the m
My top three priorities are vibrant neighborhoods, a balanced city budget and community safety. Vibrant neighborhoods includes safe parks and green spaces, community programming for all, welcoming and accessible libraries and fixing potholes and repairing our streets. A responsible city budget includes balanced spending priorities for families with children, seniors and those on fixed incomes, support for essential city services, budget support for libraries and parks, and strategic budgeting
I engage and represent members of our community by attending a wide variety of events on a regular basis, such as those hosted by our African Heritage groups, Native peoples, Pride celebrations as well as attending community meetings from one end of our city to another. I am available to constituents by email or by phone and respond in a timely manner. As a good listener, I take into account differing viewpoints and opinions and work toward collaboration and cooperation.
I am held accountable by my constituents who can contact me individually and by attending our council meetings where we allow public comment on matters of concern to them. I try to meet with people who request a meeting, even if their views differ from mine. I am transparent in that I post on social media only the truth about my work and actions.
