I've volunteered extensively after distasters. I work with local candidates to get them elected, and have started coordinating with the local theater to improve their revenue and services provided.
I believe empowering mutual aid efforts will be a huge service to the community. My concern is utilizing the resources we have efficiently to face the common problems shared by citizens. Child care, food disparage, accessibility to resources are all things that will improve the lives of locals.
I've found that it's important to meet people where they're at. If the majority are on social media, that's where we need to meet them. City sites, townie pages, whatever it takes. An engaged and informed community is an empowered one.
I think that it's incredibly important that we work to protect housing. Not just against commercial encroachment, but also from short term rentals. There is a housing crisis that isn't fixing itself.
I think that the most effective ways at our disposal to improve air quality are to reduce our carbon footprint while working to support our natural parks and resources.
While I agree that a competitive market is good for consumers, I feel that the surplus is unnecessary and creates a volatile industry. We have heard time and time again of places closing their doors with 24hr notice leaving their employees to fend for themselves. We need more stability and competition in ALL industries.
