Town where you live
Olympia
Experience (300 characters max)
I’ve lived in Olympia for 14 years as a renter, homeowner, and small business owner. I’ve worked at the downtown YMCA, in the shellfish industry, and now as a policy analyst. I understand Olympia’s challenges and will bring practical, community-focused leadership to the City Council.
I plan to engage with Olympia residents by being accessible, responsive, and present in the community. I’ll attend neighborhood meetings and events, visit local businesses, and hold regular listening sessions to hear directly from people across the city. I believe in open communication and collaborative problem-solving, and I’ll respond to questions and concerns in a timely and respectful manner. As policy is being shaped, I will actively reach out to relevant groups and organizations to ensure their perspectives are heard and reflected in the decision-making process. Whether through email, social media, or face-to-face conversations, I want residents to know they have a voice at City Hall and a councilmember who listens, learns, and acts with transparency and integrity.
Olympia should be a leader in addressing environmental issues by taking bold, practical steps to mitigate and adapt to climate change. As a city already experiencing the effects of sea level rise and coastal flooding, we must invest in resilient infrastructure, protect our natural resources, and make smart choices about how we grow - including clean transportation and energy efficiency. It also means supporting local businesses and workers as we move toward a cleaner, more sustainable economy. Additionally, by collaborating and working together with regional partners we can tackle environmental challenges more effectively by sharing resources, aligning goals, and building solutions that reflect the needs of our communities and ecosystems.
I have a strong record of public service through both professional work and volunteer involvement. I’ve supported youth and families at the downtown Olympia YMCA, advocated for sustainable jobs in the shellfish industry, and now serve coastal communities as a policy analyst. I also volunteer on the board of the Youth Pickleball Initiative and with Thurston County Pickleball to help expand access to healthy recreation. In honor of my brother in law, I support, volunteer, and fundraise for ALS charities including Team Gleason and the ALS Association Evergreen Chapter.
Olympia should address homelessness with a balanced approach that helps those currently unhoused while also preventing people from becoming homeless in the first place. We need to add more housing of all types, especially affordable units, by supporting infill development, increasing housing density in appropriate areas, and making it easier to build accessory dwelling units. These steps not only expand our housing supply but also create more inclusive and affordable neighborhoods for working families. At the same time, we must recognize that rising costs in other areas, such as childcare, are pushing people to the edge. Addressing affordability means looking at the full picture, not just wages and rent. For those who are already unhoused, we need to ensure there is a clear and direct path to access services and work with providers to simplify that process. We must lead with compassion and empathy, while also setting reasonable boundaries that keep our public spaces safe and welcoming.
My vision for Olympia is a city where everyone has a safe, stable home they can afford. A place where working families, small businesses, and their employees can succeed and feel supported. I want Olympia to be beautiful and welcoming to all, with clean streets, accessible sidewalks, and well-maintained parks. Achieving this vision depends on long-term financial stability in the city budget, so we can make smart investments in housing, infrastructure, and essential services. By planning responsibly and working together, we can build a city that reflects our shared values and meets the needs of our community.
