Sarah brings a diverse and rich background to her role on the City Council. She has served as the former chair of the City's Public Spaces Commission and has a background as a teacher, historian, and non-profit program administrator.
I am always available to residents of our community via my city email, and do my best to respond quickly, but I prefer to meet people face to face when possible. I attend many 'coffee with council member' events hosted by the city, city festivals, and the farmers market to make myself available to people where they already are. I also regularly share updates with our community through neighborhood Facebook pages and respond to questions and feedback when I can.
The city needs to be active in environmental restoration and in supporting the creation of more sustainable infrastructure and community design. We need to invest in transit, and multimodal transportation, and add density to offset vehicle emissions and reduce vehicle miles required to navigate our community. The city needs to be a leader in these actions but requires the support of our county and state partners.
I am running for re-election after serving one term on city council. Prior to serving on the council, I volunteered with the city's public spaces commission for five years, including acting as chair before my election. I also volunteer extensively with the Northshore School District, including nearly 100 hours this school year.
I believe that the city needs to work on three areas to respond to this issue. First, add housing and especially affordable housing to meet demand in our area and keep costs down. Second, support families to stay housed through funding human services and emergency support services. Finally, we need to ensure that regionally we increase the number of shelter beds available to bring unsheltered individuals indoors.
My vision for Woodinville is a community that my kids can stay in for the future. One that has a clean environment accessible to all community members, has a variety of housing, and that supports pedestrians and multimodal transit users as well as cars. In order to get to this future, we need to invest in our transportation infrastructure now, add affordable housing, and protect and enhance our parks and green spaces. These things are good for our community now and help use to be livable and sustainable for future generations.
