I plan to reestablish meaningful citizen engagement by restoring critical community-led committees, including:
• Citizens Budget Committee
• Citizens Transportation Committee
I will also launch an independent online civic platform—www.LFPCommunity.org—to keep residents informed, engaged, and connected.
Additional outreach will include:
• A robust City Council website presence
• Responsive communication via email and social media
• Regular meet-and-greet events and civic participation in local activities
Lake Forest Park is known for its environmental values, and we have numerous committees and resources already dedicated to environmental protection. However, one of the most significant current threats lies outside our direct control: Sound Transit’s Stride 3 project.
This project proposes:
• Removal of over 400 mature trees
• Construction of a massive retaining wall
• Encroachment into slide-prone zones and sensitive creek habitats
The City Council recently sent a letter urging Sound Transit to modify a small stretch of Bothell Way to prevent these ecological harms. Unfortunately, not all Councilmembers supported this vital change—the only member who chose not to sign was my opponent. Another Councilmember had to recuse himself due to employment with Sound Transit.
Lake Forest Park must defend its environment and protect both its natural beauty and resident safety. My role will be to advocate fiercely for responsible, community-centered alternatives.
Public service takes many forms. Mine has always focused on where help is most needed—at the individual and grassroots level:
• 15+ years with The Mankind Project (local, state, and national levels), helping men grow in self-awareness and integrity
• 40+ years coaching youth sports including soccer, volleyball, and skiing
• 20+ years offering free alternative healing services to those underserved by modern medicine
Institutionally, I’ve served on multiple nonprofit and educational boards:
• Board Member, Cascadia College Foundation
• Board Member, Asian Cultural Museum
• Supporter of DENSHO Foundation, preserving stories of Japanese internment
• Contributor to dozens of financial publications
• Donor to the Seattle Art Museum, United Way, Lake Forest Park Rotary, and many others
• Member, Seattle 4 Rotary, Contributor to Lake Forest Park Rotary
• Founder of the Investment Forum, fostering local job creation and business development
Lake Forest Park is a unique community—home to highly educated residents (two-thirds with advanced degrees) and high-income levels. Combined with strong police-community relations, this has resulted in minimal visible homelessness in our area.
That said, we must remain proactive. The City has increased its investment in mental health services and support systems to assist individuals on a case-by-case basis. I support this compassionate, responsive, and preventive approach.
My vision is simple: Preserve the character of Lake Forest Park while responsibly achieving state and county obligations, such as housing density mandates.
Lake Forest Park was founded by Ole Hanson in 1910 as a community that would live in harmony with nature. We are not meant to become another densely urbanized corridor like Lake City to the south. I want to honor Ole’s vision - a community where people and nature thrive side by side, just as it has been for over a century.

Semra is a lifelong Washingtonian who has lived in Lake Forest Park for 15 years and has had the honor of serving as your councilmember for the past 9. Growing up just down the road in Woodinville on a half-acre full of cats, cows, and chickens, she earned her Bachelor of Architecture at the UW and
I plan to attend several meet and greets, hosted by my campaign as well as hosted by local organizations and my supporters. I look forward to the League of Women Voter's forum every election as it is well attended and you always ask very relevant questions as well as questions from the audience.
Our role is to do our best with what we have
- maintain our ample tree canopy to clean the air and reduce the urban heat island effect
- transition our fossil fuel machinery and vehicles to electric as replacements occur
- hire a climate coordinator to manage our progress, oversee projects, and pursue grants that can speed up our transitions to more environmentally friendly choices
- partner with our neighboring cities to increase opportunities that may be out of reach for our small city
2 years on planning commission during which we updated the comprehensive plan
9 years on City Council and on the Budget and Finance Committee for over 5 years
I am on the boards of HealthierHere and North Urban Human Services Alliance. I am the city representative on the North King County Coalition on Homelessness.
In the past I was a member of the Joint Recommendations Committee through Sound Cities Association and as the Chair for the Washington Community Forestry Council.
We have little space for providing services, but we can still be part of the solution. We need to formalize our state mandated emergency and transitional housing regulations and we need to address the high cost of housing in our city.
We need to continue to engage on the North King County Coalition on Homelessness and to fully fund the service providers that make asks of us during budget season.
A vibrant, diverse community that is fiscally stable, safe with a community focused police force, housing types for those that want to downsize or who are just now entering the housing market. The city will have clean, well maintained streets, sidewalks, bike paths, and trails that take people to our amazing parks.
