Experience (300 characters max)
elected School board director, business owner, college professor
As a current Kent School Board Director, I have consistently responded to every community member who has reached out to me, whether through email, social media, or in person. I believe public service starts with listening and showing up. As a city councilmember, I will continue to be accessible through regular town halls, open office hours, and neighborhood meetings. I will prioritize transparency, two-way communication, and building trust across all parts of our community
I strongly support the mission to improve cities involvement with combating environmental degradation and impacts to our society. Cities play a critical role in local climate action. I believe Kent should invest in sustainable infrastructure, expand public transit, protect green spaces, and support clean energy initiatives. We must also reduce pollution, increase tree cover, and promote environmental justice, especially in historically underserved neighborhoods. Collaboration with residents, schools, and businesses is key to building a greener, healthier, more resilient city for future generations.
I currently serve on the Kent School Board and was awarded the 2022 Champion for Children Award by First 5 FUNdamentals for my advocacy and leadership. I was also appointed by the former governor to the state Disabilities and Employment Committee to help shape inclusive workforce policy. I’m a licensed therapist and professor, teaching and mentoring the next generation of mental health providers. I provide pro bono therapy to low-income, immigrant, and BIPOC communities. My organization offers job training and employment support for youth and adults with disabilities. My service reflects a lifelong commitment to equity, access, and community empowerment.
I believe the city must take a compassionate and coordinated approach that addresses housing, mental health, and economic stability. I’ve worked in homeless outreach and low-income housing, so I’ve seen firsthand the barriers people face. As both a human services professional and small business owner, I bring a unique perspective on how to fund, support, and approach solutions from multiple angles. We need more affordable and supportive housing, investment in behavioral health care, and partnerships that connect people to long-term resources and not just temporary fixes.
I want to build a city where everyone, no matter their background; has access to opportunity, safety, and a high quality of life. That means walkable neighborhoods, affordable housing, thriving small businesses, and youth programs that give our kids a strong start. I envision a Kent where people feel connected, supported, and proud to live and work. My vision centers equity, economic stability, and long-term planning that puts people first. I bring my proven results across the different domains of experience to hit the ground running with practical and reasonable solutions.
