Lake Washington School District No. 414 Director District No. 3

No Salary, some districts offer small per diem for evening meetings. School Board Members are the elected governing body of the school district, with responsibilities that fall in four major areas: Vision – focuses the work on student achievement through a comprehensive strategic planning process; Structure – provides prudent financial planning and oversight; diligent and innovative policymaking; Accountability – sets specific goals and a process for evaluation, reporting and recommendations for improvements; and Advocacy – champions public education in the local community and before state and federal policy makers. The School Board sets the general policies of the district.

Experience (300 characters max) I have over a decade of employment with the Bellevue School District as a Paraeducator and Substitute. I raised 3 sons in the Washington State public schools and extra curricular programs. I currently work full time on the leasing homes to the Lake Washington School District families.
Phone etiquette is very important in school and business. Similar to our other tools for success in a dynamic tech world, we should focus attention on this in curriculum, so students are socially intelligent and work ready. If we educate our students about phones use while working at school, they will learn appropriate use in school and in different situations.
As a school board director, it is our responsibility to make decisions that work for the majority of the students, keeping in mind our vision. In the case of a financial deficit, the board’s role is to review recommendations from the Superintendent and the district budget team, keeping in mind our mission and vision of providing access to quality education for all students.
My priorities are to provide a world class education which includes general, enriched/gifted, and special education in areas of: reading, writing, math, STEM, physical activity for health, and the arts, utilizing current technologies. Other priority areas are: student physical safety, building safety and maintenance; transportation safety, maintenance and logistics; Nutrition Services, and administration services and all staffing.
LWSD has all the information on their website. Emails are sent to parents and meetings are recorded for later viewing. When I asked parents what they see as an issue, communication and transparency were at the top. When navigating the website, it was difficult to find the school board information. Perhaps working with the webmaster to make a more intuitive and easy navigation experience on the website would be helpful. Links to the recorded meeting video in the email would make it easier to access the information. Invitation reminders to our parents via email or text to join us at each study session and board meeting with the agenda attached. Follow up emails or meeting requests about specific issues brought to the board meetings during the 30 minute comment portion is a must.
